As far as I know, you are not allowed to use weapons in the Mojave Preserve unless you're specifically hunting.

Here's a paragraph from the website.

    Firearms
The discharge of firearms is allowed only while legally hunting. Target shooting or “plinking” is prohibited. All firearms transported within the preserve must be unloaded, cased, and broken down, except during lawful hunting activities. No shooting is permitted within ½ mile of dwellings, hiking trails, campgrounds, information centers, Kelso Dunes, Fort Piute, or any other public gathering areas.

It wasn't as a matter of need.. more along the lines of plinking..

i wouldn't bring them... i don't think there are any zones along the way for shooting, and with the rangers out and about, the last thing we need is to mark our sport with any misunderstandings...

except for maybe the LEO's of the crew...

Well there it is.. The guns stay home, this time..

Although this law was repealed in 2008, still not worth the hassle.

I don't think there is a need for a firearm and with the permit that we applied for, I prefer not to be shooting in the preserve. Also, we have law enforcement and federal employees in our group and so it's best to not put anyone in a situation where they have to call you out. Of course some guys travel with a firearm which is fine but please keep it confined and out of sight unless we get attacked by chupacabras. I like shooting as much as the next person but this preserve is not the place for that.

better safe than sorry... with so many trucks going, the rangers will already have eyes on the group...

if it was Barstow, then heck yah, as there is a spot on the westside of the 15 that you can shoot all day long...

Yup, with this big ass group, we can be seen from miles away. The rangers sit on the mountains and track us down very easily.
