Criminals forfeit any rights when committing crimes & trespassing on others' rights & ILLEGAL non-citizens don't have any rights here except to get the fuck out & go back where they started!

Damn Straight! I got my ccw permit in the mail yesterday! of course I can't carry because I spend all day on the UofA campus and no one can carry here except the cops. We are working on changing that so that anyone with a ccw could carry concealed.

 

I know this is kinda off topic, but what is good pistol for personal protection maybe some kinda off revolver (easier to load). I bought a 12 gauge when i turned 18, but that was just cuz i could. i ended up pawning it though.

 

do you want it for concealed carry? If you do a 380 is a nice small gun.

I carry a colt mustang .380. .380 auto is the caliber and it is nice and small so I can conceal it in shorts and a t-shirt. it is is nicely accurate for such a short barrel. Colt doesn't make them anymore I don't think but you can probably still find a used one.

 

I have now started to practice open carry everywhere permitted. You should see the looks I get. Its my right and I'll inform those that don't know it.

 

I have heard some people doing this and then they get stung by the BS law of inducing panic.

 

Woot! and in those 4 minutes you could get shot, a burglar could have his way with your wife, smoke a cigarette, have his way with your wife again, and tie you up to lecture you on the importance of a concealed weapon...then kill you.

Yes, he's wrong about legislation, but he's right about how guns (at least the average gun someone would buy) haven't become overly hard to come by. I think his overall point was the sentance below, which I agree with.

Being complacent is not a stand we should take on gun rights, but EQUALLY, we should not act wildly fearful and overreact. It just makes us look like a South Park episode ("they took mah gun!" "they took yer gun!"). We need to act with responsibility, maturity, and education. The anti-gun laws are being put in motion because of fear and misunderstanding, coupled with wild behavior and hype. Educating yourselves, educating others, and acting responsibly are key.
Since you are probably questioning my background now, my family owns two Glock 28s with extended clips and night sights, a 30-30 winchester, a 20 guage shotgun, an AK-47, a Baretta 96 Vertec with extended clip, a Winchester .22, a Ruger 10-22, a Ruger 870 Express 12 guage with pistol grip/speed feed/extended tube/surefire light, and a Saiga 12 guage semiauto shotgun. I also have access to a HK G36 , S&W .357 magnum, and a Ruger semi-auto shotgun. I have carried concealed for about 5+ years, along with two other family members and 2 friends. I don't have a problem with people owning multiple guns, high power guns, clips, semi auto capabilities, or assault-style weapons. I believe in educated concealed carry. I believe that you should never know that I am carrying, nor ever know that I had a CCW in the first place, because flaunting leads to trouble.

I don't believe in people being reckless with gun purchases. Buying 5 guns in a day because Hilary Clinton is running for office is not going to prevent SWAT from tossing smoke on you and gathering them back up.
I believe in the right to bear arms, but I don't believe everyone should bear arms. I can legally own and operate a chainsaw, and people around me can feel safe while I operate it. If I hand the chainsaw to someone who has never used one, someone who thinks chainsaws are a toy, someone who thinks they need to dual wield the chainsaws with a gas truck behind them and a penchant for clearcutting, or hand it to Crazy Larry who's licking the walls, then there's a good chance that body parts will be missing by the end of the day. I can teach some of those people, but there's also some people who should never touch the saw, nor will they ever properly respect it.



To those who are on a college campus: Please educate yourself more on your gun rights. Last I heard, State and Federal laws overrule laws set by the college.

For open carry, some states are better than others. The police forces are better educated in some states than others. Oregon has open carry, but good luck trying that out anywhere around here. Our troopers are unfortunately lacking in education on what citzen rights are.
In Wisconsin, open carry is also legal. I talked with a man who went in to Wal-mart with a Colt .45 strapped to his side and proceeded to... buy groceries. The manager threw a fit and called the police to remove him. The police arrived, assessed that the man was calmly picking up milk, and told the manager to shut up. The police told the gun owner to politely leave to keep the situation controlled. The gun owner contacted corporate, who fired the Wal-Mart manager for disturbing a customer and going against company policy.


For the person considering the .380 for a CCW:
First take classes for CCW. Educate yourself. Figure out if you can properly act in a stress situation and if you can resolve a situation or if you CREATE a situation by having a gun (perfectly fine if you are that type, and there are alternatives like karate, knives, or kubaton). Know proper care, proper use, proper safety. From there, you can begin looking and knowing what you need. Work with your CCW instructor.
A .380 is a fairly small caliber for personal protection. Unless you have very small hands or have trouble concealing, I would highly consider a larger round for greater stopping power if at all possible. A 9mm is a cost effective, easy to find round. For revolvers, I would recommend a .357 magnum - you can use .38 rounds for plinking or "getting used" to the gun, then use the .357 rounds for protection. A .45 is another choice, but I find that you don't get as many rounds and the gun is usually on the large side. I carry a .40 cal, which usually means a medium sized gun. I get about as many rounds as a 9mm, but stopping power closer to a .45.

 

^^^I disagree with zero here. Excellent points. Good middle of the road level headed perspective. When where & how to tho down is key. Don't go out seekin shit & purposeful practice of not being victim of shit is delicate balancing act.

 

the reason i own is because of a few reasons.
1.)the right to bear arms (enough said)
2.) i've been robben 3 times, and cops did nothing all 3 times.
3.) my wife is worth it
4.) i love hunting
5.) i have the belief that guns protect us from criminals AND the goverment. call is egotistic, but its going to take force to remove those guns from my house. and if more people held this stance, there would be no "swat smoking out my place to get them" it would take to many numbers to effectively remove all privately owned guns.
6.) if ever this country does collapse, money will mean shit, cops won't be arround, and criminals will still exist........... the only effective currency will be force. now thats far fetched, but it never hurts to be prepaired.
7.) and an invasion of any force will be greatly haulted by the civilian masses being able to defend themselves. (red dawn)

Just and FYI at least on Arizona Campuses you can't carry weapons because they are state property and thus the state made the law. technically by law the University has to provide lockers to store your weapon while on the premisis but none do and there is no consequence for them not to.

I only know because I just took my CCW class last month and we covered this.

 

By reading some of the reasons why people own guns here, some of you must either live in outright third-world, dangerous environments.

 

you don't have to live in the getto to have something happen. there are stupid people everywhere and at any income level. I would much rather have a fighting chance if someone broke into my house at random.

 

Or they just want to be prepared for the unexpected and reconize that the threats of criminals are REAL

 

Personally, I don't have strong feeling about guns either way. I'm fine with people owning them. But the reality is that if someone is going to stick a gun to your head, they aren't likely to be polite and tell you in advance. So unless you have your gun in your hand, unlocked, loaded, and aimed 24/7 at a split-second notice, then you might as well be carrying around a pea shooter.

But if you want to really worry about threats, you will likely get in a car wreck sometime in your lifetime, there are countless diseases that at any time could flare up and decimate millions, and leagues of rogue nations who could cause global conflict.

Again- not saying you're wrong for owning one and protecting yourself. Just questioning their effectiveness for the reasons people claim they own them. By the fact that so many people openly brag about their weapons, I suspect there's more reasons than as being used for protection. My dad has them too and he keeps his mouth shut.

 

Well I have a 2 story house and a dog.. by the time someone breaks in I can tell you that I will have my gun in hand before they get close to me. That and I keep one pistol in my bedroom in a small lock box.

also everyone is different. It's just like tacomas... people have hobbies/interests and like to share info or brag about what they have. I have a friend in the marines and LOVEs to target shoot.. it's a tallent/skill just like golf or anything else competative.
