Thanks man. I know everyone is just trying to help out and I am greatfull for that. This is a build for my dad and he told me at the start that if he can spend 20or 30 dollars more on a certain part to get a better version of it then go ahead and do it. So it will probably be the BCM BCG.
I also noticed they raised the price on those by 20 bucks!!
I bought mine a while back and it was only 130....now they are 150

I have two almost identical ARs, one has a 16.5 inch barrel and the other has a 10.5, they are lots of fun and even more fun with a .22 conversion kit I have.l

This is why I don't get on AR forums. Gun guys are more opinionated than car guys! Everybody seems to be fanboys of whoever rifle they have and the rest are shit. There are a ton of companies that sell stuff with their label on it and it's all made by the same manufacturer. Personally I have at least 1600 rounds through my Spikes gun with 0 issues other than a wore out gas ring. The gas ring was my fault for not cleaning the gun for well over 900 rounds, just kept the bolt wet with clp and shot it. I did have an issue with my SAR rail but they are resolving that. Really who gives a shit about what other people build and buy? As long as you are happy and satisfied with what you have that's all that should matter. If people want to get a non "mil spec" gun and be a responsible owener of it let em.

My last 3 ARs are Palmetto State Armory builds, and I've had really good luck with them. I own a few "Top Tier" rifles, and frankly, all of mine run the same.

The junker I have built out of pure parts box stuff that has unk parts throughout runs just as good as my Daniel Defense "milspec" rifle. The junker has close to 5k rounds of mine through it, and no telling how many that carrier group and barrel have. They headspace ok, so I'll continue beating it.

"Milspec" doesn't mean a dang thing if the parts are of good quality. Most everyone is working off reverse engineered drawings, and things from a good machine shop using good materials is going to be good to go.

Last thing I broke on an AR was a firing pin. It was a Colt firing pin....

    +1
Mil-spec simply means that it meets the government's minimum standards.
That doesn't mean that something can't exceed those standards.

Also +1 on the BCM fanbois.
There's nothing wrong with BCM... but every time a "which one" thread comes out, someone drags out "the chart", and "the chart" is not 100% accurate... it is updated every year or so as BCM changes it's suppliers, but other brands are not always updated.
"The chart" lists 1:7 as being the preferred twist... in reality, 1:9 is the most versatile for the average hunter/sport shooter.

On different manufacturers, Kaiser and JD Machine are the source of quite a number of lowers and they have done production runs for Spikes.

I am going to get the VLTOR step hand guard to work with my optics I have already.

I have never heard of VLTOR until recently, is this a good product?
