I was lucky enough to see it fly by! Very cool! This was also pretty nice to see since I was fortunate enough to witness an evening launch a few years ago.

I saw one escort, not sure if there were more. There was also regular air traffic since I snapped that pic as it was over Newark airspace.

It is simply amazing to watch something fly out of site, straight up in about 3 minutes.

I think they said if there as an issue, they would abort mission and end up in Spain in 7 minutes. That is insane.

Awesome picture thanks for sharing. Use to work at Edwards (years ago) on the rescue recovery team. The question regarding fighters in trail.... That was a NASA T-38 - USAF training jet used as a photo and safety chase/escort (no weapons) on all flights.

 Don't worry, the next space shuttle that goes up into space will be Chinese.......

And the USA can only watch........:( And look at our past space shuttles sitting on display, like the Saturn 5's rockets that went to the moon, a testament to our once great nation.

Never got to see a launch, but Dad was working Downey for the Apollo and Shuttle programs, so I got to go to Edwards for the Enterprise rollout and watched the first landing during the ALT phase of the project.

Going to have to visit the Endeavour before the museum and neighborhood turn it to shit.

I heard we copied the arm, made it smaller, more reliable, and now use them on garbage trucks.....

In hindsight...we should have used the same arms from a garbage truck on the shuttle. It would have been MUCH cheaper. Hell.....we could have put 30 of those fucking things on the shuttle, and STILL had enough money left over to fuel a couple flights.....it would have been satilite launching MADNESS!
