So after research I realize that no one really has an solid idea as to why some trucks have the under hood insulation and fire retardant blanket and some don't. I also found out that there is confusion as to its overall function.

Either way, I have it on my truck and part of the retardant mesh has been ripped and hanging down in my engine for almost 10 years now.

I see that there is tape used (or possibly used by the previous owner of 1 year).

What kind of tape is it? Obviously it has to be high heat resistant.

    Thanks.

Is that flue tape? High heat duct tape?

Mine just had the yellow under the hood, just take it off unless you would like to keep it. Not sure what kind of tape is on there but flue tape would deff work i just ripped mine out though

That black mesh is supposedly fire retardant material.

    I'd like to keep it.

Guess I'll just go with flue tape and hope it sticks

Any tape that is high temp tolerant will be fine. Honestly I would either dynamat the hood or tear that out. Kinda looks like a cheap chevy with that junk.

Good thing you only see it for the few moments my hood is up

I'd rather spend $4 on a roll of tape than a couple hundred for dynomat.

Just want that black mesh off my engine

I totally understand. I probably have more coats of wax on the underside of my hood than most people have on the whole truck. I've even clay barred it. I like everything looking clean even though I'm the only one looking at it.
