Anyone made wooden stake sides for their truck box? If so how did you attach them to the bed rails? My last truck had stake pockets where the two by four stood upright in. My dc doesn't have this. Thanks

Ah yes , the Hee Haw mod

I've never seen it done yet

Seems like having the stakesides only attached at the mid height wouldn't be very strong , ie lots of leverage on the tops

Hahah. The heehaw mod can be suprisingly useful. I suppose one could run the upright to the bottom of the box and attach it at the bottom as well. Not keen on drilling the box though.

What are you planning on using the stakeside set up for ?

Double steel angle, bottom part bolted to the side rail, middle section resting on the bed sides and top part bolts to the wood uprights.

Lots of uses. Four bikes lean against them well standing up leaving more box room. When I move my lawnmower and trrimmer I strap the trimmer to the sides. Slash from downed pine beetle trees, you can load the box up to the roofline and not have it spill over the box sides.

I would do a " cage " of aluminum tube , similar to an over-cab roof rack , but just put the top bar at roof height and it could attach to feet that sit on the bedsides but secure into the bedrails , leave the back open

    You follow me ?

Got it. I've seen a steel one on a truck that hauls tires to be recycled. I am looking for inexpensive spring/summer use only stake sides or like what you suggest. Aluminum may be pricey??

Maybe too expensive for a single season use , but could be stored outside when it was off and not rust

I like the idea though, I'm going to do some measurements. I would think an aluminum boat maker (a couple in the Fraser Valley) could fabricate something.
I always laughed with the wood sides. With a big load the sides at the back spread out like secretary spread! I never lost a load. Aluminum could fix that.

Thats good, I could even supplement the sides with wood running horizontal. I appreciate the help.
Gulf Islands, very nice! I'm in Vancouver:)

That racks ok, I think capit are selling them premade. I like how the rack is cabover, gives me more possibilities. In aluminum would be great, thanks for suggesting it

Make sure whatever you get from Capit is designed to attach to the Tacoma bedrail system

I have a headache rack from them
