What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Damn..how did you kill the gears? Lol

 

Got a pair of new Thule Insta-Gator bed bike racks today.




Love the way these things hold up the bikes w/o having to yank the front wheels off or having anything dangling over the tailgate.

Test fit with my own bike:

 

I did mine miles back on a 4x4 only trail. Was not fun getting down in front wheel drive with third pulled! I shreded my ring gear! And it's on video too
Lead to new leaf pack, and full regear

 

Wet sanded the bed in prep for the Raptor liner tomorrow. Got almost all of the rusty spots up, but got one or two to do tomorrow with the Dremel. But if its all in the preparation, I don't mind taking my time with the sanding. Spent about five hours altogether on it.

I wish I knew man. Original owner. Everything stock - engine and powertrain. Running 265/75 tires. You'd think I would break a U-joint or axle shaft or something before a freakin' ring gear.

well i started my sliders today

was very nice having a car lift!

kick outs are just a touch wider then the tires




See them just hardly poking out....




gonna get em all welded together tomorrow and painted and mounted up as well!

 

Yesterday I finished my bed carpet. Plywood, carpet pad, hinged rear piece.

 

They look good! It's about time you got some sliders

dam, those things look good! way to finally get something useful done

 

Got my ultra-gauge from the group buy installed I bought some heavy duty all-weather velcro for mounting it rather than using the cheap stuff that came with it. Just need to calibrate it for my slightly larger tires and I'll be set.

 

The stinger matches the lines of the bumper, I dont think the hoop would mesh well with the bumper very well.

I was als thinking about getting some 3/16'' plate and tacking it into the open spots in the front of the bumper to make it into a sorta-hybrid bumper.

 

Rotated and checked air in tires...front cross to rear....rear straight to front.. Bought new Duralast floor jack... 2.5 ton... That i had to try. Worked great ...may be a little heavy but time will tell. Also adjusted headlights down...with 3" lift was getting flashed on low beams....used wifes forerunner as guide against side of house. Washed engine bay.

 

Yes, truck came with a cheapo CAI from the PO, got an airbox and piping from a member here (for free!!) Installed it and then cut a deck plate about 3 weeks after since i had to wait for the plate from eBay.
Suggesting a $300 CAI over a $6 deck plate is bad advice. Neither really does a lot except make more noise. The "butt dyno" would have to be really sensitive to notice a difference between the two, but I promise the $294 is really noticeable in the "wallet dyno"

 

What did you do?

Just spray it down? Or did you simple green (or something similar) everything then spray it down?

im sure you could make a hoop that did the same tho. If it followed the line of the grill it woud be so sick IMO.

but im also anti stinger on tacos kinda..

DO IT! i bet that would be super sick!

 

I used simple green on my old prelude and it worked awesome. Sprayed it on the engine, underside of the hood, everywhere else except where the bottle says not to, let it sit then hosed it off. Cleaned 10 years of grime without even breaking a sweat.

 

Let us know how that Raptor liner turns out. Really thinking about doing it this summer to my truck.

I don't really like stingers on tacomas either but I think the 4xinnovations stinger is one of the best looking bumpers with a stinger for first gens. The stinger isn't way over the top like some of the other ones I've seen
