No , not Vancouver Island , that's huge . I'm in the Gulf Islands between Vancouver Island ( where Victoria is ) and the Mainland

Fugitive doesn't ring a bell , but the whole 90's was kinda of a blurry mess :)

What would we gain from BSing people? If there are doubts, check Fuelly for the people that have it. We wouldn't have anything to gain by fudging those numbers?

I think most of the doubters are just people that think they are good all around drivers, and they can't figure out how others are able to post better numbers.

Suburban driving 50% @45-50 mph minimal stop-lights, but need quick get go. Rest 50% freeway @65-70 mph. 4.0 Liter with 1100 miles on Odometer, all in 2WD, started at 18 MPG went up to 20.4 now, hand calculated.

    That's pretty good.
My Suburban started at 16 and was running about 12 when I sold it to a guy at work and bought the Taco ;)

I don't know how some of you guys are getting close to 400 to a tank. I have a 2012 V6 4X4 and I'm getting about 250 95% city when the light comes on. I don't baby it but I'm no speed demon either. Just your average driver. I would think that focusing more on being super smooth would account 25 - 35 more miles to the tank, but not 150.

I also live in a somewhat "hilly" area, but again a $150 miles per tank difference?

2012 = Newer truck... these engines need some miles to "loosen up" and improve economy.
There has been some speculation on various forums that the factory tune intentionally runs on the rich side of emissions spec to help reduce cylinder temperatures during break-in.

    V6 4x4 = Worse mileage than a 2WD, and way worse mileage than a 2WD 2.7.

I can reliably get 400+ to the light, and on a good tank can probably get 450 to the light. Lately I've been averaging 23.5 to 25.5mpg, but last couple of months I was averaging 24.5 to 26.5mpg.
That is not uncommon for a 2WD 2.7, and pretty much wishful thinking for a 4x4 V6.

Well that is probably it right there... 95% of your driving is city. I am assuming that is somewhat stop and go, traffic lights, idling, and a less than stellar MPH in a hilly area.

Now compare that to someone that is probably 75%+ highway driving with few traffic lights, a constant speed, little traffic, fairly flat terrain... I don't baby my truck either, but all of that adds up... Remember, the V6 is rated to like 23MPG highway or something like that, so people posting up 360 mile (20 MPG) tanks is not outside of what the truck is rated for.

The biggest question is are these people posting 400 mile tanks topping off and squeezing every last drop they can in to the tank when they fill up, or are they going to the first cutoff and calling it a day?

    Agreed

My trucks can be at 2800 rpms climbing hills at 60 kph but rip along the highway at 1500 rpm doing 100 kph

2007 V6 AC 4x4 here. On a real good tank I get 320 miles. A few weeks ago, after swapping to summer tires, I pumped them up to 38 and kept the tach below 2k rpm on an entire tank and got 18.1 mpg with mostly highway miles. That's 4mpg less than when it was new, almost 90k miles ago.

That's why measuring by the tank was never a good idea.

I forgot to add, mine is a 2007 Tacoma 4x4 Access Cab TRD Off Road Package with a 6 speed manual. I average around 15 around town and 17 on the freeway. I also top off the tank at every fill up so that gives me an extra 2 or 3 gallons too.

FWIW I never top off. Charcoal canisters are expensive.

Anyone who thinks I'm full of bs with my mileage, feel free to read my posts. Everything that I've done to affect mileage is on here somewhere.

My first trip in my truck took me 360 miles on the first tan if I remember correctly. That was ALL freeway. I seriously don't see how 95% city vs 75% city would be a 150 miles per tank difference.

I have also been filling up as soon as the light turns on. I had a land rover before my Tacoma and when that light comes on, you better stop, QUICK! Maybe 2 gallons left at the most in that thing.

I'll have to pay closer attention on my next full tank. On the bright side, my gas mileage from the rover to the Tacoma is SO much better. I know, V6 vs V8. I have an 8 mile round commute and fill up every two week.

I have about 800 miles on the truck and hit the light around 240 with pretty much all city driving around the hills of Austin.

I'm sure some can be attributed to the lower weight (no 4wd components) and the more efficient tires (245 width) for me. My regular highway driving, at 75-80 mph with only moderate hills, nets me 18-21 mpg depending on weather. My best full tank mileage so far is 22.5 mpg, that was with a light foot on back highways going 50-60 mph in nice weather. I use Fuelly to track my mileage, and I always record trip and overall odometer reading on my receipts.

My best individual trip mileage, as measured by a well calibrated scangauge, was 25.5 mpg. That was a nice 50+ mile Sunday drive where we were only going between 45 and 55 mph the whole way, with occasional dips to 20-30 for towns. The rest of that tank was light driving; I didn't fill up until over 420 miles on that tank.
