Bad factory Tires?????

So I have a 2012 Tacoma 4x4. At 150 miles had to have a tire replaced, sidewall blew out. Now at 3500 miles had a flat this morning. I found a small stick in the tire, very small I would be upset if this stick punctured a bike tire, much less the tire on my 4x4. Anybody else had any issues with factory tires??? Dunlop AT20 Grandtrek!

 

I ditched those tires very quick. They are horible.

 

I've got 35,000 miles on the original tires.... no issues with them

 

Never had a flat in my AT20s in the 11k I've put on them, though they do have terrible shoulder wear under 40psi. Perfectly average tires, but not something I would rely on in a tough situation.

 

Yeah for daily driving in nice weather they work, but if the weather turns bad here in Oregon they had no traction. I had the same experience with the shoulder wear.

 

I'm noticing the same thing. But I can't bring myself to replace nearly brand-new tires so I'll put off getting bigger, better ones until these wear out. But damn, they suck

 

I know what you mean, when i took mine off I only got 100$ for the set of 4 and they only had 10,000 miles on them. Sold them to a guy that had a 4runner and was looking for better miles than a set of M/T.

 

Get new ones and CraigsList the stockers.

 

I've had mine on my Tacoma stock tires for just over 11,000 km now and they are okay. They do alright in the winter time but a good set of winter tires is in order. I have't taken my Tacoma off roading yet and I know that the Tacoma tires are going to suck. They're good for dry, summer weather though.

 

Working at the dealership I can assure you that Toyota puts on crap for tires.

 

The stock tires suck big time! I think I got around 20k out of mine before replacing them. They still have tread on them but I was also saving up for new rims too. Toyota should be ashamed of the tires they put on these trucks.

 

I think that most manufactures put shitty tires on their vehicles.

 

Yeah, keeps cost down and helps them get you back to the dealer to replace there is you are within your "complimentary maintenance"

I think its called Toyota Care or something like that. Basically they do all the maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000miles free of charge. If they get tires that need to be replaced around 30K, you get to pay for them...

my dealer had a special tho...free tires for life, as long as they do your oil changes every 5k...

 

I took my factory tires off the first day I had the truck!!!! They did pretty good up to that time???

 

What's "Complimentary Maintenance"? I'm glad we don't get that in Canada lol

 

The stock tires suck,got 12k out of mine.

 

I have 32,000 on mine and never had a problem, not even a flat. I will agree they are not worth a shit in the snow. Any kind of up hill and I have to put it into 4 wheel or the rear-end will brake loose. When they are worn-out I will look for something with better snow traction.

 

The Dunlop tires (and steel wheels) are THE ONLY thing that I don't like about my truck. I'll wait til these wear out before buying new one though. I don't have that kind of cash laying around. You would think that when they charge $28k - $35k for a truck, they would put a decent set of tires on it.

 

My friend's new Hyundai came with Michelins... Not all manufacturers put garbage on from the factory.

I stuck it out til just over 30k miles with the AT20's. The first winter they weren't bad, the second winter was a lot worse and I didn't dare go into the third winter. They were an OK tire for road use but I certainly wouldn't buy them as a replacement.

 

I ended up talking to Dunlop about my displeasure, and got credit for trading them in actually. I think they gave me just over $50 per tire. With rebates and price matching, the local Discount/America's Tire put a set of Revo 2's on my truck for less than $400. THOSE tires are freaking awesome.
