OK. For you guys that are claiming 25+ with your I-4 motor and 4x4 I am saying no way!

Toyota rates this truck at 23mpg hwy so where are you getting the extra 2mpg?

For the record our best mileage has been 22 maybe 23 on longer road trips but most of the time it is right at 20mpg.

For comparison my diesel LandCruiser gets 24-26 + with 33s. Very slowly though. Tacoma is a much nicer ride.

 

Mine's got 1,800 on the odo now and I got 26.4 on the last tank, 40% city 60% highway. There's a couple reasons in my case. I just put an Armor Lid tonneau on, I live in Denver where the air's less dense (seriously it makes a big difference at speed), and I don't do jackrabbit starts. A huge part of mileage is in how you drive it.

 

Is yours the Access cab or the regular cab ?

I guess the standard cabs do get better mileage. Less weight.

 

I have a regular cab 4x4 and i've gotten as good as 27mpg before. I don't take off fast when i'm getting that type of mileage and I also have full synthetic oil in the rear diff the front diff the transfer case the tranny and the engine. Also keep an eye on your tire pressures.

 

I see you are running AMsoil. I am using their diesel oil in my LandCruiser (diesel). Good stuff.
maybe I will try Amsoil in the Tacoma also.

I just got licensed as a dealer its not expensive and it pays for itself over having someone else deal it for you plus there is a warehouse in dallas I can pick it up at. I don't really sell it to anyone, just myself hehe.

 

Just filled up....24.9mpg that seems to be about the best I can get on my commute with this crappy winter mix gas. That was going 70 on the highway and not going above 2500rpms in the city except to merge onto the highway.

 

Good to know. I know Amsoil is expensive but a couple mechanic friends of mine swear by it.

My wife is pissed because I told her we would get at least 23mpg. She was looking at a Yaris.

 

I am in the market for a Regular Cab 4x4. I am really excited about getting one. I am coming from a 1998 Camry 206,000+ Couple of questions if you guys don't mind. How can I get one with color keyed fenders? Do you guys find it difficult not having extra space? Is there enough behind the seat for some extra cloths? Such as Carharts.

 

To get color coated fenders you must go to sr5 package, and for the room, kind of depends on how tall you are and much you have to move the seat back ? If there like my Carharts they're in the back with the tools, too dirty and oily for the cab, I have a little rubbermaid box that I keep them in so they don't ruin all that is clean.

 

6' tall, i was thinking about getting a box to put in the back. not a cross box though. just a box. my question would be how do you secure it so people can't steal it?

 

I'm 6'4" so the seat's all the way back. Still room behind for my tool roll, first aid kit, ice scrapers, jacket, hat, gloves & blanket, and my laptop briefcase if I want it out of sight. Still got room left over.

 

I put in octane boost and not only do I have more power, it
runs smoother.

I use the cheap gas and get 2-3 mpg better. more than worth the 2 bucks.

 

Whats the point of having a 4cyl if you cant get 25 mpg? I have the V6 double cab 4x4 and in the right conditions i can and have gotten 21mpg on several occasions (although its usually 19 to 20). i would think the 4cyl should be able to get 25 fairly easily.

 

'05 access cab 2.7L 29psi Dunflops, I have gotten 25 once, mostly 24mpg on long trips camping, etc. but 22-23 VERY consistently in the summer.

 

octane boost won't do diddly squat with a stock computer so stop making stupid statements like that.
