People with Defined Engineering SUA kits

What kit do you have and what shocks are you running for stock location? non stock location?

 

your pics and feedback is greatly appreciated. do you do a lot of jumps even though you have no bumpstops in the rear?

what were the differences when you had went from stock leaves to the SUA kit?

 

Jumping without bump stops (or bypass shocks tuned to act as bump stops) is asking for frame damage.

Krish is just running those shocks as a tenmoorary set up so I doubt he is hucking the truck on them.

mine ships out Monday and probably wont be installed for a couple months.

I have been also contemplating whether to do a bedcage or just running the IVD new 2.5 shocks. Decisions, decision. I will keep the normal bump configuration not going to do to hyro bumps unless I run a cage.

Krish, how much lift you running with the kit? Did you remove the 11th leaf or keeping it with the new heavier duty pack?

Regarding the highlighted comment, if you were to throw on some bumps that install on the shock IE the daystar poly bumps...are you still asking for frame damage or do you really need to be bumped axel to frame

 

You need a bump between the frame and the axle. If you bump off the shock, you're asking a lot out of that little 2.0 (asking for a bent shaft IMHO).

You could grab some day star regular bumps and drill holes in the factory bump pads on the frame and just bump off that or the time being (that's what I'm doing with me SUA/shackle flip for the time being)

My Defined Kit is being istalled today

 

Pretty stoked, should be all done tomorrow. Can't wait for the Mojave run to test it out.

Then all I have left for the forseeable future is the 16" triples and the tube work.

 

I want to see some Go Pro action of the defined kit in the whoops. I want to see how that leaf pack cycles.

 

It seems to me that the steepness of the arch of that pack, in order to use the stock mounting locations, is what is causing the bucking; and also what is keeping it from bottoming out.

and yes krishes truck needs more compression, less rebound and obviously more shock since hes running stock length shocks.

 

IMO keeping the stock shock mounting points with anything but stock springs it backwards progress. Especially leaf springs need more compression than droop and unless you want your ride height really high, you will never get you potential and it will buck

 

I dont know much about this but after thinking about it how would you get that compression with the SOA leafs? (Assuming that compression and uptravel is the same thing )The amount of uptravel is extrememly limited and IMO using a J66 deaver pack with longer shocks is kinda pointless because you just get more droop but what kills the tacoma is the lack of uptravel. Like you said to gain that you need alot of lift or SUA.
So are you saying you would rather have a SOA pack with longer shocks or SUA with stock length shocks? if you had to do it in stages... school me please!

 

Absolutely that what I am saying. Shock is such a huge part of the equation that no one figures for. Defined makes great kits and if anyone is having problems with the kit bucking or anything else it's the shock not the kit. Shock valving and placement is number one when it comes to ride.
