I had a ball python for 20 years.

If socialized, they are the kindest, most gentle snakes.

    Miss ya, Julius

Tell your mom to get over it... ball pythons don't get that big full-grown (just a little fat). And show her how gentle they are.

Word of advice (from someone that had a lot of snakes for a long time): Don't feed your snake in the same tank in which it lives. It eventually associates (at least initially) that every time you open the tank, it might be getting a meal. So I got a large rubbermaid bin and fed all my snakes in there. Eventually they didn't start to get "amped" until they were placed in the bin that smelled like rodent. That way, when I would just open the tank to change their water or pick them up, they were totally at ease.

Also: try to get them to feed on dead rodents. Lot less likely to get hurt feeding or get parasites (assuming the rodents are frozen). Then again, your mom might not appreciate a frozen dead rat thawing in her kitchen.
