Hey guys just purchased a 2012 DC LB 4x4 tacoma sr5 package. So far I am very pleased with the truck and the price I got it for. This site is awesome! Wanting to do all these mods already, but slowly have to wait till more dough rolls in.

You guys have any tips/things I should know about the truck. I heard the tailgate doesn't support a lot of weight and I plan to put a sportbike in the back eventually, should I take the tailgate off to load? I already have the pop lock on order but may change to the electric one depending on how I like the keyed one.

Also my purchase was kinda impulse buy since the truck was pretty much ideal for me color and options wise and the financing was good. I didn't realize how much the TRD was different. I would only get the sport if I did but what are the main differences, I only noticed fabric, the 115v outlet(can I put one in like toyota installed?) and maybe a sway bar? I have the 17" alloy wheels on their already. Just wondering as I would like to add things on to make it more "TRD" in a couple years just didn't want to wait and finance. Hard to find 4x4 TRD models in San Diego, a buttload of prerunners though.

Another thing is the hood scoop necessary for the supercharger? Eventually I will get one but my truck doesn't have the hood scoop.

AAHHHHHH so many things I want to do to the truck already!

The Hood Scoop you see on Sport TRD Tacomas doesn't scoop air into the engine... it's just for looks.

    Welcome aboard!

The scoop isn't necessary to add a supercharger

trd has a locker and some nice styling features. I load my fourwheeler with the tailgate down all the time it shouldnt be a problem if you dont leave the weight on there. but I thought they fixed the tailgate thing

Maybe find some TRD shocks in the buy/sell section Unless you got something better in mind. The main differences are with the Offroad trim, with it's e-locker and a-trac. The power outlet? I want to use it but haven't had a need for it yet in 5-1/2 years. Welcome, anyway!

You can add an aftermarket locker (and with it, onboard air .. very nice). As for the bed outlet, it's pretty worthless ... low amps. It's fine for charging a laptop or phone or running some small appliances but that's about it. Personally I'd rather have the larger cubby space. The LB is nice .. toss on a shell and add a Bedrug, and you got a cabin.
