Loved my 99 XCab 4x4 TRD SR5 Off Road, ARB bumpers 240,000 miles. I pull a 1971 ford bronco regularly (4000lbs plus trailer) without problems until Toyota looked at it. They bought it back this week because of a rusty frame, so now I am on the hunt for a 2012 DCLB 4x4 magnetic gray. I wouldn't own anything but a Tacoma.

I enjoy the truck so far. This is my second Tacoma. Like the first, it is built solid and feels rugged. Nothing leads me to believe it won't be as bullet proof as the first.

I only have one big gripe, related to the rear-view mirror. The height of the cabin is set by function over form so if you are tall, the way the mirror hangs down there is a blind spot the size of Texas to the mid-left of the windhsield. At first I just noticed it existed and didn't think it would interfere much. But this weekend I was driving along and a dog ran out into the road from the right and I did not catch the dog running until it came into my field of view in the center of the windhsield. Luckily, I did not hit the dog but it startled me a bit and this issue has got me a little concerned. If a kid runs out in th4e street on a bike or to get a ball, I want to be able to see it without having to duck.

I don't think it warrants a recall but it is enough of a safety issue for some people, IMO, that it should be dealt with in the next cycle. Everyone is different and comes in different sizes and heights. but the mirror really gets in the way of my view. After the incident with the dog, to deal with it, I have to push the seat forward farther than I want. I did not have this same issue in the 1st gen but then again the 1st gen had a lower profile mirror without the backup camera and dimming/compass feature that adds to the size of the mirror.

I am actually going to talk to the dealer about this to see what, if anything, can be done. Hopefully it doesn't mean having to go with a lower profile mirror as I do like the backup camera and feature on the mirror I have. Regardless, it concerns me enough I am going to call the dealer or write Toyota about it, if anything as an FYI to let them know some people have a concern with it and it might be something Toyota addresses in the future.

Other than that, love the truck so far.

It has been over 18 years since I had a truck--forgot how bumpy the ride is. My last car was an Integra, so I had to change my driving habits quite a bit. Unlike my Integra, I have no feel for the Taco. It has been 3 weeks since I bought the truck, and I'm still uncomfortable making a right turn with another car in front of me. I hate the big ole blind spot when I turn my head to the left. The passenger's seatbelt light is really annoying. So far I can't say I'm too happy with the useless monkeys from the dealership who won't help me with any of the problems I have encountered so far.

Btw, thank God for this forum!

Overall, I'm happy that it's a new truck, and it has a lot more storage space than my Integra. However, I gotta say this will be my 1st and last Toyota.

There is very little that I dislike about my Tacoma. The first is I wish it had a manual transfer case like my 97' did. The other things are I wish it had rear disc brakes, the rear locker working in 2hi and 4 hi as well and I wish the 07' had the Aux thing for my iPhone. I also wish the truck had avg. mpg, avg. speed and so on like my wifes 2010 Corolla does. Now that my kids are getting bigger too, I also wish I had a double cab as opposed to the access cab but I really can't complain too much because I honestly love just about everything on my truck. I regretted getting rid of my 97', which was my baby and this one has been a nice replacement.

I have only had my 2009, which I bought used, for a little over a week. It had just short of 20k miles on it when I bought it. I really like Tacomas! I traded in a low mileage Ford Ranger, but like the Tacoma so much better. I had owned a total of 3 Ford Rangers, but found Ford was really going backwards in quality on them. What attracted me to Tacomas was the body styling, comfort and reliability.+1 on what "JayDawg" said in the previous post: you can't beat the old manual transfer case lever as opposed to relying on electrical or vacuum activation.

Glad to find this forum, as you guys are very talented and a wealth of information, but damn....this forum is going to be $$$ (mods)!.

Just picked up a '12 Tacoma, off road, 4x4, access cab.
Nice truck for sure, will have to see. Off course, I traded in my '06 Tundra, 4x4, v8, off road..........SO........the Tacoma has a tough task to make me as happy as that Tundra did.

Love it to the point my fiancé is starting to get irked. Hate it because of all of you guys and yer damn mods and temptations.

The only real gripes I have are creature comforts...heated seats, power sliding window, locking storage options. Luckily it can all be remedied but, as someone else said, a fully loaded truck in this day and age should have that stuff. Sucks that I need to put money into that and it eats into the fun mods like suspension, and other necessities like softopper, etc.

Beats the hell out of my 99 frontier. That's fo sho.

Overall I'm happy with my truck, BUT. I am starting to get pretty fed up with the small things.

By that I mean: Squeaky clutch pedal, chirping blower motor, unidentified popping noise that is probably the front bumper extension clicking as the frame flexes.

The truck runs great, but damn, have all the little noises started bugging the crap out of me, considering it's only 2.5 years old.

Dont like the 18" chrome clad wheels on my 2012. Also dont like the daylight running lights. Love the new front end and the new interior. Also like how they tweaked the hooks in the bed from the 2010 i used to have.

Overall, I love our Taco. Wish it got better mpg and had a bit more towing capacity though.

And no, I don't want to step up to a larger truck! I like the size of the Taco!

Not happy yet. I sold my 2006 GMC Sierra which had everything I could ever want in a truck. I was trying to buy a house and needed to free up some extra cash. Long story short, no house so I bought a new truck.
So here's why I'm not happy:
$30K truck in my opinion should include: the option for leather, power seats, a driver information center. Again just the option. Now I feel it should include a bed light, a hanger for the gas cap, and maybe a power rear sliding window. I'd say my 2012 dc,sb, prerunner is a solid $24-$26K truck, but after owning it for a week, I wish I would have gone with a GM. And the fact that it has a 4.0L and get's worse gas mileage than V8 doesn't help it's case. Hope the truck grows on me....
