How are you liking the MTZ's over the Goodyear's?

Good luck with your sale! I was wanting rear mud flaps but I figure there's no point as it's going to get torn off anyhow. What all did you do to your truck? Should consider posting an add here on TW and upping the price on your flaps as they're pretty popular

No need to apologize, just buy us hookers and booze now!! J/k heheh that's what the BS thread is for.

Are you suggesting there are still hookers on 82nd that aren't actually vice cops? Seems like cockblocking is the sole mission of the PDX police.

As far as construction goes the MTZs are much beefier. The side walls on the MTRs are pathetic to say the least. They puncture easily. I've had two punctures and I know of 6 other guys that have as well. The tread depth on the MTZs is deeper than on the MTRs by a few 32nds. Personally I think the MTZ looks nicer and more rugged. The MTRs are a nice mix between daily driver and wheeler. They are of the lighter mud tires. They are a good all around tire but if you're wheeling anywhere with pointy rocks I would stay away from the MTRs. If I had to buy tires again I'd go for the MTZ without a second thought. They fit the bill better for my style of wheeling than the MTRs. I haven't been able to use the MTZs in most conditions so I don't have a fair comparison yet. I'll probably post a review further into the summer as I get more miles on them.

My current MTR's (old version) are starting to get low on tread and I'm beginning the tire search now. The MTZ's are on my list as well as the new claw TTC but I can't find much info on those.

    Thanks for the input.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
Agreed! Great sidewall strength, they look great, and they hold up well @ low PSI. I had Baja Claws for about 60k miles, and I was pretty happy with them for the most part, aside from their performance in thick, clay-mud. Was gonna get MTZs, but as you may or may not know, I just picked up a set of brand-new MT/Rs (old-style) for a steal. I hope they hold up well, since I will be using them as you described DD, weekend wheeler.

Good info as well! If I didn't get such a good deal on the MT/Rs, I would have gotten MTZs for sure! Aside from the big ass price-tag, they really are great tires. I like the improvements on the new TTC (better siping for wet performance, better sidewall design and performance) but it is still a directional tread pattern, which can limit you traction in reverse, or going forward in some cases. Thats my only gripe. :D

I did some fender/wheelwell trimming tonight, and hooked up my cheap little CB setup. I am relieved to say that the thing actually works. I met up with Mike and we tested it out to make sure it transmits/receives decently. It should suffice for the Tahuya trip, and then I'll try to get a more permanent install rigged up.

Mitch: I don't recommend using the CB's external out to your stereo's AUX in. While it does play the sound through the speakers, it squeals like a pig when you hit the microphone. I think there's too much power amplifying the signal that it creates horrible feedback. At least mine did.
