Duratracs suddenly noisey as hell

When I hit 60 the hum is pretty damn loud, have to turn the radio up because the noise drones and gives me a headache. They have not done that the last couple years I have had them, so what can change? I tried airing them up, airing them down, did the chalk test and they are set correct. Always starts at 60 and goes away a little over 70, so you can see my frustration I am sure.

Any ideas? Search had nothing for noisey duratracs

Sure it's the tires?

 

not 100% sure but pretty sure. cant imagine anything else making that noise. sounds like deep mud terrains going down the road.

oh yeah, and whenever I turn to the right it seems to go away until i go straight again. like it rolls off the center off the tire or something. i cant tell if its 1 tire or more.

possibly wheel bearings going out? just a thought

 

How many miles on the tires? Lots of manufacturers harden up the compound as the tire wears, could be that they're worn a bit and just getting a bit louder.

 

id say 15-20k, maybe a hair less. I guess thats possible. I tried to video it but it didnt come out well. I will try again with a better camera.

 

I would say it sounds like a wheel bearing is going out. Especially if it goes away on a corner.

 

I'd say this could be the issue too.

I have my 3rd bad wheel bearing now and it almost sounds like a mud tire hum and vibrates the truck a little.

 

does it only happen at a certain speed? it literally starts at exactly 60 mph every time. I am gonna swap a set of stock wheels someone gonna let me borrow on to see if it does it still.

 

Yup. Sounds exactly like when my front wheel bearing went out.

My truck would be normal until right at 60 mph, then it would hum just like you're describing. If I'd turn the wheel at all to the right, it would go away completely.

 

alright well i feel like an idiot for not thinking of this. you guys are geniouses. looks like wheel bearing is the correct answer. just jacked the truck up and gave it the ol wiggle test, and it has some play. makes sense about the turning right thing too.

I have the exact thing happening, goes away when I turn right. Took it in this morning and got a call from the dealer, both front wheel bearings shot. 65,000 miles, very small lift, 1.85" using the Eibach coils. $1400.00 price tag, but I've got the extended warranty, so $100.00 out of pocket.

 

im gonna have to do it myself as my warrenty is out. any recommendations on which bearing assembly is the best buy? is the moog one the one that eveyone likes?

 

The more miles A tire gets the louder the road noise will be.

 

My duratracs are doing the same thing. Cant stand them and regret getting them! Anybody wanna buy them? Lol

Mine are making a humming sound too but it is the tires!

 

my problem is for sure a bad bearing, front left. im just doing both fronts once the parts come in. yes the tires have sound, but it is not bad at all. what do you expect for such an aggressive tread?

 

May also want to do the carrier bearing drop kit as well.
