Are front diff drops "universal"?

Well I didnt want to start a thread, but hopefully it can be of use to others and it isnt too burnt out of a subject.
So I have a 2'' spacer up front and I had a diff drop installed as well. I am going to buy the 3'' OME full lift kit soon. My question is: does it matter what brand or will any diff drop serve the same purpose? Going from the spacers to the coilover set up I would imagine I should keep them unless they arent compatible. In searching the forum I heard alot of 2nd gens werent running them on 3'' lifts. I didnt find much for 1st gens... Remove them? Or keep em (if possible)?

Yes, they are all the same. All they are is spacers that drop your differential down in order to reduce the angle.

A lot of people on here say they are worthless, but the guys at Down South Motorsports recommended to me the I install one with my lift, so I'll listen to them.

 

Dont forget they are salesmen as well. Look at the threads and threads of people saying they are worthless both here and on TTORA. Real world experience is better than a salesman telling you that you need something. lol

 

Yeah thats true. Thanks for the input guys. I mean I already have mine so I will prob keep them on worthless or not. It seems like some people dont like them because they cause clearance issues but idk. Mine will stay since they work with whatever set up you run.

 

Hi axle angles are an issue. With 3" of lift on the 1st gen IFS, the boot fins on the inner boot get too close together. If the fins touch on a regular basis, you will begin to see a groove worn into the rubber. It will eventually tear at that spot on the boot.

Diff drops are not a miracle cure but they are an inexpensive option that is more effective on 1st gens when compared to 2nd gens. If your inner boot fins are touching when you are on flat ground, installing a 1" diff drop kit will lower the axle angle enough so the fins don't touch.
