I do kinda like how the thread is titled... Like the OP is really asking "Why in the hell would you be so dumb as to not get an aftermarket sunroof!?"... Haha

the list of "i wouldn't because..." is huge. wind noise increase, leaks, hefty price tag, not to mention doing something like that the first time is a pretty damn scary considering the risk if it doesn't work out.

I like the cab roof the way it is - some of that steel that they cut away has to be structural. I don't want it replaced by rubber and sliding glass...

Both my 300 and the 350 have it. I use it when I want my tinted windows to look lighter. But I would never get an aftermarket one due to leakage issues.

Sunroofs are the target of choice for local thieves around here. They pry em open to avoid the alarm.
I dont have a need for it and dont wanna give anyone an easier way to get into my truck.

I think it would be hard to pry open mine. The tilt won't go open very far and other than that, it's a slider that won't really budge. Plus by then my alarm would go off as the slightest movement.

I dont know a lot about sunroofs but had 3 broken into in one night on our street (including ours) and when talkin to the police about it they said theres been a lot of them cause they know how to open it without setting the alarm off and then can mess with the interior lighting to disconnect the alarm so they can leave through the doors. Maybe the new cars/trucks are better at protecting against this but ours was an '04 and the alarm never went off.

The Toyota RS3000 and RS3200-Plus systems, it doesn't matter what they do with the interior lighting... if you unlock the door with anything other than the key or the remote fob, the alarm goes.
You can't even get the front doors open.. much less manually unlock the doors. Hitting either the unlock button or operating the level will trigger it.

Good to know. I dont know what brand the other cars were that were broken into but ours was a pontiac. And like I said I dont know a lot about the tacomas alarm system other then Ive never wanted a sunroof since that day. Get you stuff stolen once you dont want to take any chances on makin it easier to happen again.

It's not new, it's not Mexico
I have a factory sun roof in my Celica and rarely use it. I would not wanna' mess with the structural integrity of my truck with some aftermarket POS.

Wait. There's a difference between a sunroof and a moonroof I think. Sunroofs are electronic sliders that can pop up on one edge and moonroofs are manual with flip of the lever sort of like the rear slider on our trucks. MOONROOFS are what I would absolutely never trust in terms of theft.

On the alarm issue, if the truck gets moved as if someone sits on it or is trying to jack the wheels, the alarm will go off. If someone is trying to mess with the roof, I would think the alarm would go off because of their weight moving the truck.

My wife has one in her 4Runner and never uses it because it blows her hair in her face when its open. But, when I drive it and she's not with me I use it and like it.

Yes they are two different things. I believe a moon roof is just a stationary window that does not open and is only there to add more light to the cabin. A sunroof can be opened and is retractable. Ours was a sunroof that was broken into. They were able to pry the window and wheels from the track and flipped it open to get in.

Now ive jumped into the bed of my truck while removing supplies and the alarms never gone of from my weight moving around on it but then again I wasnt sitting on the roof or hood so maybe thats why?
