Do all the work myself, because, dealer is for major warranty work and Jiffy-lube etc., I don't trust. Plus, like to keep the 1X1 bond with my rides, does'nt happen unless, I mess with with them weekly.

I have a feeling training in the US is different then here. Those are terrible mistakes to make. Does not give you the right to put someone like me in the category of "fucking retarded". By your attempt at literacy, it appears as my intellect is higher than yours. What's your line of work? I'm sure I've had a bad experience with someone in your profession. I'd like to put you in that "general" category too. Fair?

Document and small claims. If nothng else, you would put the offending service department (dealership) on notice in a very public forum. I have to agree with both parties. It sucks to have "damaging" work done, but it also sucks to be aligned with the "FR's".

I service my own vehicles as much as possible. Lack of trust is the primary reason.

I do all of my oil changes myself. When I bought my truck, it came with 2 free oil changes from the dealership so I let them do those but other than that, I am the only one who will do general maintenance on my truck.

I can understand how P.O.ed you are. There are a lot of hacks out there, but I'd bet they have some really good mechanics too.

I don't know if they all do it, but some garages pay their guys on a flat rate scale: you only get a preset amount of money for that particular job, no matter how long it takes the mechanic to do.

Having said that, it doesn't mean the job should be shoddy, but I'd blame the dealership more than the mechanic. It's a shitty way to do business if you ask me.

Dealerships near me are begging for service work. If you go back and calmly explain the problem, I'd guess they would make it right for you.
If not, you have other options to explore.

These crash washers are available at auto parts store or just the dealer?

They are installed between the filter and the mounting bracket?

I just bought a tacoma access cab in January and due for PM soon.

k&n makes the best oil filters for off roaders (smallest micron rating to catch all the little dirt particles)

Myself. $26 5qt bottle synth Mobil 1 at Walmart + $6 single quart + $3.50 OEM filter from dealer + $0.80 crush washer. Then next time around same thing except I don't need the extra quart since I have 1/2 left from the previous change.

More expensive to do myself but save me time, I get to run synthetic, ensures everything is done properly, and keeps it clean.

I also do the rest of the truck fluids too.

yeah, between drain plug and pan. i reuse mine and have never had it leak, some people don't like to reuse them. i guess its personal preference. i don't over tighten the drain plug so it never really gets crushed all the way.

You're probably right - you most likely can reuse the washer. It's cheap insurance though to ensure no leak from the pan.
