Wiring for Backup Camera over Tag

Hey everyone , I recently purchased a Pioneer AVH -2400BT headunit and I got the Koolerton Backup Camera with it... Headunit went in without any hitch but what had me puzzled was how do I run my AUX and power cord from the license plate area all the way to the headunit without drilling holes in my 'New To Me' truck. If anyone could reference any material that would be awesome bc I don't want to be an annoyance with my curiosity .

 

If you pop off the door sill next to the driver seat and lift the carpet right underneath the driver seat is a rubber grommet that comes out next to the frame and run it along the frame straight to the license plate. You can see it if you lay down underneath the truck under the seat area.

I sure will brotha. What kind of head unit and camera are you thinking about hooking up?? I got one that mounts to my license plate and I got it for like $15 off of Amazon.

 

I'm thinking about one of the new model Kenwood's, they are out already.
Haven't decided about a camera yet.

 

Installation took about 2 hours bc i spliced the power to the reverse light lines on the driver side and ran the AUX line all the way to the gromet under the seat. From there i hid the AUX cord in the trim n fished it from behind the pedals up to the center console. Sorry i didnt take any pics of the whole process... I think it was from me being super excited about about doing something technical to my truck. Camera works great for the 10 bucks
I bought it for. Its got a nifty nightvision mode with some infrared lights. They look purple in the pic tho. And in all reality, i dont think id use the camera too much but its a cool feature to have.

 

How's the camera holding up? I've been debating on which camera to get but most cameras have some people claiming issues with water leaks. I know, every company is going to have someone with an issue. I just don't want to install a reverse camera more than once..

camera is still working pretty good... id recommend getting some silicon n seal around the.lens just for precaution. but I've taken my truck thru carwashes and with the rain we've had here in GA for the last couple of days it's still holding up. for the price of the koolerton cam its a great value... i rarely use my camera to back into my driveway or parking spots cuz i am naturally just an epic badass at backing in but its really a lot easier to back into a trailer hitch or for my wife to back into spots.

 

hey, i decided to get the camera. Can you explain how you wired it? Im hearing so many different versions.. but what i tried to do was splice the red to the red/white wire in the kick panel and the black to ground. Then I connected the video to the back of the unit but i still don't get anything. there are two short red wires on the video cable that im not sure where to put.. any help?

 

can u post some pics? there should be a total of 3 wires from the camera. (power,ground, and rca) what i ended up doing is splicing the power and ground wire to my reverse light thru the harness. and i ran the rca up to the cab thru the drain plug under the driver's seat. make sure you check the back of your head unit too... on mine there's a yellow aux in and out and then the plug in for the backup camera was not really shown until i whipped out the user manual and i felt like a jackass bc i thought everything was defective

 

ill try to put some pics up later. but i have everything wired up in the right spots. i had the setting not on battery so, that was why it wasn't turning on. my new issue is that it will turn on fine when i get in reverse. but it wont turn off automatically. the screen goes black and the "caution reverse" warning stays on. it goes away when i touch the screen but then turns on about every 10 seconds!! HELP??

 

mine does the same but what i do is just turn off the setting for the video feed and the screen does not come on... i hardly use my backup camera by the way but it does help when backing into tough spots

 

I started another thread about it and ended up finding out what to do! I have a pioneer head unit and there's a reset button that I held for five seconds. Then, set the settings for the camera ("battery" for polarity and "ntsc" or something for video) BEFORE you put it in reverse. The camera should work properly after that.
