Update.
No joy on just installing a switch on the LG green wire at pin 4 of IB1.
No ABS light. 12.5vdc on the wire side and 10.6vdc on the plug side of the green wire.

Back to the drawing board. Wonder if ABS works with the Parking Brake on?

I tried it today as well, I hadn't seen your update. And same here, no ABS light came on when I disconnected the green wire from pin 4. I didn't try grounding the ECU side of the open circuit, did you? It might take opening the circuit from the Ig1 fuse, and grounding it? I'll keep you posted if i have success. I also did not try driving the truck with it disconnected, but I doubt that would be a factor.

 

Do not ground the light green wire. You will blow a fuse and achieve nothing. The grounding was for people with lockers and a resistor had to be installed to prevent blown fuse. This is all in this thread. It started as a thread to disable abs for trucks with lockers and has morphed into a thread for trucks without lockers. I suggest reading the whole thing. I followed instructions for no locker truck and it worked fine. The pics are also very helpfull.

 

OK, update here with success! I once again removed pin 4 from the IB1 connector, and same as yesterday, no noticable effect. The green wire I removed had ignition power just as the diagram showed it should. The mating pin in connector IA4 had 10.5V with the key on, but when I grounded this pin, it turned the ABS light on, and it also went out when I opened the ground connection. So, if you connected the IA4 side to the center terminal of a SPDT two position switch, the top to the green wire from IB1, and the bottom to ground, it would complete the job.

I understand not to ground the green wire, as it will ground out the Ig1 fused circuit, and blow the fuse. I did read the whole thread, this one that started as a thread for trucks without lockers. I also read the diagrams posted. I understand rodstone's method, and while it works, I don't like the fact that you have to cycle the key to reset the ABS.

I will take pics and document my method, and will add it here once I've completed it and confirmed all is well.

That's cool if it works for you, just seems overly complicated. I just followed instructions in post that started with "booyaah," or something. Cut light green wire, one side to spst switch, out of switch back to light green wire. Simple. 20 min. On the fly ability to switch abs on or off.

 

I tried simply opening the circuit, which on my '06 did not have any noticable effect, same as what Fritzthecat experienced. There must be differences between the older ABS ECU's and the newer ones if it worked for you and others. So, since the way you did it didn't work for me, I can't agree that my discovery is overly complicated. Its simply what the switch does in the factory locker trucks.

I want to confirm this works 100% ground the pin behind the green wire. Im gonna do some more digging and see if i can come up with something better.

 

Cool, post your results if you don't mind. The way I posted above worked great for me in the driveway with a jumper wire, but that's the extent of my testing so far, but I'm confident it will work from looking at the diagram.

I haven't had the time to continue on mine, been busy with other projects and life. I've got a switch now, just need to find the time, not that it will take long to wire it up. I'm wanting to hit the wreckers and get a pair of connector bodies so I can connect it without cutting and remove it without a trace later if I ever want to.

 

Well looks like my endeavors are frivolous.. I was trying to find a way to use the factory harness for the diff lock switch in the dash to disable the ABS, No dice.

This Diff Lock switch in the dash ONLY send +12v to the ABS ECU which then tells the Diff to lock.
The Diff Lock Indicator switch sends the Ground signal to the L-Y wire on the back of IB1 (Our Green wire)


Although I did trace our Green wire up to the fuse panel behind the pull out cubby to the left of the steering wheel. This may be a better location to cut the Green wire to add the switch.

ok, I have read this several times and keep getting confused on what the proper way to do this is and if there is another way for me to do it so the abs light doesnt come on. Somebody please enlighten this moron.

I have an 08 v6 standard 4x4 with no frills. The only switch I have on the dash is the slutch start cancel, so I assume I have no other traction controls. So, does this sound like the best thing for me to do is put a switch on the blue wire from the original post or is there something that would work better or just not leave the stinking light on?

 

You are in the correct thread from the sounds of it, no locker, no VSC, no atrac.

It will always come on. The trick is does it go out, "on the fly" by flipping the switch, or by turning the key off and back on.
Use landphils method a few posts back if you want the "on the fly" method.

 

Thanks Sandman, I'll check out landphils posts again. I wish there was a way to keep it off, cause I will leave it that way most, if not all the time.

 

OK, so now that I've had time to complete this mod on my 2006 tacoma, and test its function, the time for a DIY has come. Please note that these instructions are for tacomas without VSC or rear diff lock. It should work for 4x4s, prerunners, and I think even 5 lugs. This mod is intended to improve braking OFF road, may compromise steering control, and is NOT for on-road use. Do this mod at your own risk, if you don't like it, then it's not for you. Don't bother trying to debate or argue with me about the intended function of this mod, you will get nowhere. If you have a better way of acheiving it, feel free to out-do me. Thanks to all those that helped me figure this out, and even gave me the idea for original method.

First, remove the driver's door sill trim by pulling gently upward, it is held down with plastic clips.

Next, remove the foot rest by pulling, again, held on with plastic clips. Behind that is a plastic thumb nut that holds the left kick panel in place.

Remove the thumb nut, then remove the left kick panel by pulling toward the rear if the truck. There are two clips near the door that hold quite well.
Locate connector IB1, pin 4 as pointed to in the photo. This should be a light green wire on any tacos without locker. It is the blue wire in my photo, pointed to by the pen

I did this mod without cutting the wire, I simply removed the green wire and pin from IB1 connector, and put it into one side of a pair of toyota connector bodies I got from the wrecking yard (shown in the center of the photo below), and matched it to my yellow wire in the mating connector. Then, I put my blue wire and appropriate pin into pin 4 of IB1 connector where the light green wire was. You can get the same result by cutting the light green wire a couple inches back from IB1, and splicing the loose end to the yellow wire, and the blue wire to the connector end.

Now, connect a wire to the ground bolt just behind/below IB1. White in my case. Don't worry about the other two ground wires shown in the pic, not related.

Run all three wires to a location of your choice for a SPDT on-on switch of your choice. I installed some Cherry KG series switches for extras, had to trim the top and bottom of the switch bezels a bit, as well as widening the opening the same as to fit Carling switches. Cherry P/N KGC2BNB1BBB is what I used for this mod. Connect the blue wire to the center terminal of your SPDT on- on switch, yellow to the top terminal, and the white ground wire to the bottom. Like this:

Pressing the top of the rocker switch will disable the ABS, turn on the ABS light in the dash, and also illuminate the diff lock indicator, even though the truck wasn't built with one. You can re-enable the ABS on the fly, and both lights will go out, no need to cycle the key. Re-assemble the trim panels, and test it out.
