I agree. Chrome can be overdone, as well. Anything is good in moderation. I think it's when people go overboard that someone sees it as an eyesore. Sometime, I see a truck or car with so much chrome trim, wheels, etc that I am expecting to see a pimp in a red broad-brim hat step out.

But as you said, everyone should do things they enjoy and spiff up their truck the way they see it. I am just dsicussing general aestehtics and likes/dislikes etc..Not insulting anyone. Just sharing my opinions on what I care for and don't.

I'm in this camp. I do, however, recognize that seemingly the majority of people prefer the blingy XD style wheel, and I respect that. Its just not my style. I've got some 16" Gen 2 TRD wheels waiting in the garage for my lift, and I will be perfectly satisfied with them. For my 1st gen, I prefer the larger, 2nd gen wheels or something like a ProComp 7089 as a simple, black option.

It all depends on the application. Sometimes I will really hate a certain wheel on a vehicle and like it on others...

I really dislike fake beadlock wheels. I prefer function over aesthetics

Beadlock wheels will never really be needed by most of those who get them, so it is all really aesthetics in the end. Same for lifts and mud tires with aggressive threads.

it means that someone lost a hub cap so they took the rest of them off.

or the original wheel/rim rusted up so they painted it black.

Basically, that was true for most of the cases where you saw black wheels in the past. There were people, however, who did get black rims just to be original and depart from the flow of chrome and silver. Now, many people get chrome to get away from the blacked-out bro style that is everywhere now.

I understand what you are saying, but it would be nice to be able to remove the rings and paint over the rock/curb rash easily.

Ultimately, it needs to come down to choosing a rim that blends aesthetically with the color and the rest of the trim on the vehicle.

Now, I don't want to hate too hard on these guys in particular, because "everyone's doing it" but a black wheel on a speedway blue to me is the prime example of what you're talking about.

Unfortunately, be careful about wishing for a change in fashion here. At least a black wheel is practical and easy to keep clean.

You know where the next trend in tires and wheels is going, right?

So, don't be too hasty to wish for the ushering in of that "next big thing." :D

Actually, the wheels on the silver taco in the photo are not all that bad to my eyes. The oversized rims are just too sedan-like for my preferences, however. Stepped down to 16 or 17, there would be more of a positive flow.

I have chrome wheels on my 1st gen and black on the 2nd gen but to me it depend on the style of the wheels either chrome or black-out that makes it look bro.

    Bingo.

In the future, All-Terrain tires will come in a 40 Series and Mud-Terrain tires will come in 50 series. Oh wait, they already do.

I like both black and chrome rims...just depends on the vehicle. I wasn't a big fan of black rims until I saw the Enduros in person...I ended up buying them. They have a satin finish and IMO they look great on my truck; not too shiny or flat...the photos just don't do them justice. They also have somewhat of a simple old school design but I took the caps off because they looked hideous

I'm also a big fan of wheels like the old-school MT classic or classic lock style wheels. The type with 6 or 8 holes. Not a huge fan of car-like wheels on trucks; however, they seem to work out in some instances. I hated those damn bronze wheels, but one member on here with a white '12 model has some and they look great on his truck.

I agree - not a fan of skinny tires with mud terrain tread on them...it just doesn't look right to me

I always thought black wheels looked good on silver and white trucks. Black wheels on black or dark colored vehicles create too much of a monotone appearance with no detail. Everything is just a blob that blends into itself.

For me, chrome looks best on dark colored vehicles. A black truck with chrome or polished Al wheels looks pretty nice to me. Can't stand the look of black wheels on black trucks. The worse combo for me. It looks totally void.

I think Chrome looks best on light colors, white and Silver.
