So what should I do? Bumper or Bills?

Discussion in '2nd Gen. Tacomas (2005-2015)' started by Krazie Sj, Mar 31, 2009.

?

How should I work this?

  1. New Bumper and some cash to bills.

    24.3%
  2. All the money to bills, the bumper is trashed anyways.

    59.5%
  3. I'm clicking this option cause I'm a retard and cannot realize there's really only two options.

    16.2%

So as I mentioned in another thread I got my trucked pegged in a parking lot yet again. The dealer forgot to mention the free option of the Hit me sticker on my truck. I'm still looking for the damn thing so I can take it off. Till then, I need to decide what to do.

My Truck is an 07 OR with 265 Michelins on it. Not the beefiest tires but they help her move fast on wet pavement and are fairly good on snow with excellent wear properties I've found. I plan on giving it a 3" lift and 33" tires later down the road but till I have the cash that's on hiatus.

So here's the deal. I'm sick of getting my truck bashed and so far it's just the bumper that's taken the beating. But I really don't want to run the risk of the next hit smashing out a fog light, fender or light housing.

But I'm also a broke ass with some bills surmounting. The woman who hit me said she'll pay out of pocket. (We're talking at least $1000 for this, I've already checked). Should I get a new ARB/All-Pro bumper and put some of the cash towards my bills, or let my bumper keep taking a beating and look like shit and put all the money towards bills?

dude theres only one option, bills, pay them off before the interest gets ya, and save your money instead of paying interest which is throwing your money away, put it towards a new bumper, who knows you might even find one here for cheaper from someone putting on those big black ones.

I think it all depends on your cash situation. Are the bills that bad? If they are..I would keep the bumper the way it is, and pay them off. If they arent that bad, and you can still swing them, get the bumper. After all, this is gonna be something that you will have and want to keep nice.

I personally, would go with the bumper, unless they were so bad I was gonna get foreclosed on or something.

It feels good when ALL bills are caught up and nothing is behind. Pay up ALL the bills, be happy and feel good. MAybe you will have enough left over to fill your gas tank and take a nice ride. Bring your dog if ya got one :)

    OR

You could invest it all into a indoor grow room, and start growing Basil

Bills. I'm impressed by the fact that someone on this site actually considered that option since I harp on it all the time.

Not much yet, got a pretty good sound system w/ my custom sub box. Plan on adding more lights & a tool box.
Hmm, let's see, make a couple of truck payments, or buy a bumper for a truck that could be repo'd. I find myself shopping for rockers & lift kits, then I come back down from planet WTF & just am happy that I own a Taco, mods will come l8r. Maybe A$$hats won't be so jelouse of a "less-than-desireable" bumber & not run into you... Then when you have the $, do her up good! Lift, rockers, bumpers.

well like I said if you let yourself slip on a bill, you'll get the lazy mindset to always let them slip and your just pissing away money in interest that you could use for your toys, would you leave a hole in your gas tank to let it all drip away, probably not, so why do it to your wallet. I'm surpirized no one offered to selll you a bumper after they did a mod on theirs.

What's this with the who now?

Yes I do, cause the next accident could put my vehicle out of operation for a stint and leave me out of work. (Public transportation is a joke here). I don't see it as a waste of money as more of an investment. I had the one issue with lack of work and the bank calling their dogs on me, but I'm back up to snuff with them, and as I said, some of the money would still be going to bills regardless. I've got my applications in for my career and with certifications and fitness I have an above par shot of getting it.

I'm honestly seeing this as insurance against further delays and hassles with people dinging my vehicle. And it's going to get an aftermarket bumper anyways.

Things I spend my money on: Food, gas, insurance and bills. Occasionally snacks like chips or shit but seriously, that is it. I'm pretty tight with my money right now and not throwing it away on frivolous crap.

well man just the fact that your asking strangers if you should be paying your bills or throwing on a bumper kinda says to me that you know what you should do, but you're hoping we'd talk you into avoiding it and buying a mod for your truck. I'm just saying, but if you decide to do the bumper thing, I want pics.

Do you see what I'm getting at though? If the next person who backs into me doesn't decide to leave a note, I'd be out my $500 deductible and god know what else while it gets fixed. I'm thinking all my good karma is helping me right now.

Are my bills bad? No. Does my current job barely pay them? Yes.

It's just that I'm on the fence about this.

I see your point and I don't entirely disagree because I've said that after the next person (yes it's been hit before and will again) rear ends my truck I'm buying a plate bumper and putting on a hitch so I can spare the next bastard after that.

So it sounds to me like you've already made your decision and you're just looking for confirmation. You don't need us, only you can know what is best for you. The poll is pretty clear where we stand.

    stock, for now

same boat, but i dont have assclows beating my truck up.

My current job of 3 years has barely been paying my bills. I got my tax check in the mail the other day, and it would pay damn near most of my CC debt off, but it feels so good having coin in the bank

^Pay off the debt and then put the money in the bank each month that you currently spend on CC debt. You'll see your account looking pretty nice in a fairly short period of time if you stick with it.

FYI: I currently have a shitload of CC debt and I beat myself up about it all the time. I'm paying it down a little at a time but it sucks knowing that I could be paying the mortgage with what I pay out each month just on CC's. So, if you have the ability to pay off your debt, DO IT.

Then maybe I should have reworded my poll. Would I be a complete douche nugget if I got the bumper. Simple yes or no.
