AK is my favorite vacation destination, by the way. I got married there.

    That is all.

I figured it was a California plates tax. :) Or maybe just normal dealer prices....mostly just being funny. And yeah, they were walking, so obviously close to where they limped in to town. Funny part is, I had driven through St George on my way to Denver a month earlier and offered use of my Tacoma for their trip. One thing about manual transmissions.....most folks don't ask to borrow it.:D

Just had 3 elders (is that the correct term?) come to the door last night at about 8:45 (well after dark). The GF told them we were atheists and said they were visibly taken aback and hauled butt off of our porch.

    So...2 questions.

1). Isn't that a bit late to be out witnessing, especially in a borderline neighborhood? If I had been there I would have not even answered the door at that hour, or at least have Mr. Rottie poke his head out along with me.

2). They were in a car. I thought that was against rules established for the elders (again, is that the correct term?)...

    Thanks!

Serious question here, how accurate is the Southpark Episode of the Book of Mormon?

Now I know they tell the story in a mocking some what derogatory way, but the basis of how the religion was founded seems to be on pace.

I do not know the intricacies of the religion, but South Park does usually tell how it is, just in their own poking fun of way. They don't usually skew the facts with the topics they address on the show, they just mock them. Sorry if this seems a silly question, but again, I don't know much about the religion outside of a few friends and that episode.

LOL, a lot of Mormons love magnets, do not know why but I do! (why can't magnets be in heaven :D )

Elders is the correct term, or just Missionaries :)

Time of the night depends on mission rules... normally after dark is appointment only time though.

Some missions (how our church divides where Elders go on their mission) have cars, some have bikes, some walk. In AK, most have vehicles, some even get small trucks.

I watched that a while ago, and it is obviously quite derogatory, but I believe the topics mentioned were at least mostly true but skewed. (sorry not going to rewatch it)

Don't blame you for not watching it. That is all I was wondering, In know Parker and Stone have a very, distasteful and demeaning to say the least, way of telling stories, yetthey usually do have the facts straight. Not just with religion but their politics and social issues too. Again, I was just wondering how much was completely fabricated or blown out of proportion by them. That is all I really know about the faith. Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the information. I don't live in the worst neighborhood, but I certainly wouldn't be cruising through it at night if I were not known if you know what I mean...and I surely would not be soliciting after dark. If I had answered the door, I would have told them so for their own safety.

    Thanks again.

True story: I am sitting on the couch on a weekend morning and look out the window just in time to see two young white guys drop their bikes at the bottom of the driveway.

I say out loud "ah man, not now, too much party last night." My roommate (serious partier) walks to the door wearing a t shirt, boxer shorts, and a hung over, grouchy look on his face. He sets his bottle of Jack Daniels behind the door and takes off his shirt. "Let me handle this, Joe."

The short, uneasy conversation ended with them asking if my roommate had a religion that he follows. He answered by retrieving the bottle of Jack and saying "this is what I did last night, what did you guys do?" He then broke charactor a little and told them he had nothing against them, but to go peddle their religion somewhere else.

I feel for you guys. Not everyone is receptive to your kind of witnessing. Any good stories of weird folks that you've collected from going door to door?:)

The bible is not the oldest "book", unless you mean the oldest book printed on a press, which sends it back a whopping 600 years to the 1400s. The old testament stretches back pretty far, but the Chinese had been systemtically recording their history for about a thousand years by the time A.D. rolled around.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Not exactly, considering some books aren't included in the bible. Look into the Gospel of Mary and the Gospel of Judas, both of which contradict the stories in the published Bible. The Gospel of Mary suggests that Mary was actually a disciple; not a prostitute. Then look into the Council of Nicea.

What I've always wondered is why the Mormans killed all those settlers in the 1800s.
