    did you see the glob of grease on the control arm? There cant even be much left in the BJ. Im just worried about driving 1200 miles round trip and wheeling for a week on some of the harshest terrain I can with such a crucial part failing. My one friend who's dad has every automotive tool i can think of doesn't have it, so ill have to look around. Maybe my neighbor who has a mini auto shop in his garage has some advice for me, i dont really know him that well.
    UN fortunately my truck is my only mode of transport, and I have no problem fixing it, but it looks like it is going to take 4 days and going to cost an arm and a leg once its all done. Realistically what do I have left out of that thing in the condition it is in and is there ANYTHING i can do to save this trip without me potentially crashing and seriously breaking something?

    Your bj is not going to fail simply because the rubber boot is torn and leaking. Just dont let the bj get dry.

    In the pic it looked like there was a tear. Fairly recent too. clean it up as much as possible. Might see if you can push some fresh grease back into it. Depending on the shape of the tear this may be possible. Use wheel bearing grease. If not, I'm sure there is still some inside, With the outside as clean as possible (maybe carefully use some alcohol to clean up around the tear) cover the tear with some 200 mph racing tape (duct tape). Use small pieces of tape. Then keep an eye on it. check it for more leakage or the tape falling off are each drive/trail.

    Its not an ideal solution but it'll get you thru until you can replace it. The key is having a little grease in there and keeping it in there as much as possible for as long as possible.

    ya, i tried the beat the fuck out of it last time and made zero progress. The bj will be stuck in there good, i can only imagine. Dam dude, what would it cost to have a shop do this? once school is done ill have a couple of days my truck can sit on jack stands, but i dont want to get super frustrated with this either, nor do i want to destroy my tight moab budget. a $200 shop fix would make it VERY tight and leave me with not much oh shit money

    oh ok, gotcha. that makes sense. How do i tell if the bj is still good? I haven't looked at the boot very cl0se but does it come off easily? like with just the metal twist tie? It appears that just the boot is torn and the grease is being pushed out. that would be great if i could just slip on a new boot with some grease! Thanks for the suggestion man! In my overly concerned state I hadn't even thought of that! Hopefully its just a boot fix!

    hmmm, that popping might be what i am hearing on the drivers side (not the side that has the torn boot) it looks like after moab i will be replacing some ball joints per regular maintence. Im going to go get my sliders welded on and keep with the schedule tomorrow and if i have time get the boot kit. if not then friday ill stop by and pick up the boot kit, or at least order it. or i think i saw a place i can order it online
