I have a 2006 Tacoma TRD that makes an annoying "chirp" sound shortly after the truck is started, and, only after I put it in gear and drive either in reverse or forward for appx. 20 feet. It makes this sound only once, and does not occur again unless I turn the ignition off and then restart, and move a short distance. It happens everytime I start the truck and roll. Any Ideas?....ABS possibly? Please advise.

Absolutely a "chirp" or a "doink" sound. A little unnerving!

will try again in an hour or so. On first attempt, had camera mounted over motor....to much motornoise. Second and third try noise was barely audible on trac(noise also was quieter, but still there on subsequent tries). will let it rest and try again in an hour or so, hopefully it will be more discernable then. Please hang in there.

Could you give me a brief explanation about what that is? I have a Prius and it doesn't do it.

    back to bone stock.
i was pleasantly surprised to find that the owner's manual mentions it. they call it "a noise". my 06, humms..like an old man whispering, "humm". i've gotten used to it, and i LIKE it. my wife and i can time it perfectly and we all "humm" in unison. retarded, yes..but fun..and much better than obsessing about it.

no. not the fan. a distinct doink or chirp noise. It happens only after i start, put it into gear and then move appx 20 feet. never thereafter if it continues running. If i shut down and move the truck, it happens again.
