I put a ToyTec lift on about a month ago or so and now I have that vibration issue, the one that goes away when you put it in 4Hi. It's been driving me nuts. Looks like the solution is a new bushing or bearing from the ECGS place to replace the stock needle one. Has anyone here done that? Looking for a little help with it as I cannot lift my truck high enough with my stands and jack. Also don't really want to buy the $60 removal tool. Not looking for a handout, just a hand. I may end up taking to the guys who installed my lift (couple doors down from ToyTec). Thought I would check here first.

Also realize this is my first post. I've had the truck about a year and a half (2011 DC TRD Off Road). Have not done a whole lot to it, most of my time and money goes into the car and the house. I'm up in Westminster.

    Thanks
    Joe

I always hear such conflicting reports on the diff drop & CB drop. Some say they're awful and screw up the geometry. Some say they're required. I didn't get one on my 3" lift, and I have 0 vibration issues. Either way, the entire concept of a diff drop scares me. Not something I ever want to do...

I'd say install the shims and take your drive shaft angle measurements to see where you fall. I have the take off shudder and have the Carrier bearing drop installed and also have the front diff installed, havent gotten around to installing my rear pinion angle shims yet.

Any of you guys have the vibrations that go away when you put it in 4WD? I didn't initially install the DB drop, that was about a week later. Diff drop was installed with the lift.

Just flip the carrier bearing bracket and remove the drop shimms. See if that helps.

My vibe comes from the rear, only happens for about 2 seconds between 5 and 10mph. Very slight, but if i start in 4HI it is gone through the entire range. I believe mine comes from the angle of the rear axle needing to be shifted 3 degrees to line up the drive shaft. Im going to install my shims and see if it helps but you and I may have different problems.

Your issue sounds like axle wrap due to the angle. Putting it in 4WD eliminates that because it splits the tq between the front and the rear. I have the same issue in addition to the vibrations from the front diff.

So whats the fix for the take off shudder? or axle wrap? I was always under the impression that the drive shaft angles were just to extreme once the lift was installed and that if you didnt use the rear shims to flatten out the drive shaft angles you would have a shudder of some sort, either at higher speeds or at take off like mine. Ive just delt with it until i can find the time to give the shims a test, then ill be at a loss as to whats next.

The guys at toytec told me you would have to secure up the rear axle or add some support to it somehow. They said normally they don't see it with 1.5 blocks in the rear (which is what I did) but I also have the TSB leaf pack which added a leaf and some height. It's possible with a different type of lift you may not get it but I didn't want to spend a whole lot (not an off road truck) I just wanted to get it a bit higher so I can put bigger tires on it. Has turned out to be a bit more of a pain then just a "simple lift"...

Your most likely getting axle wrap. Something I learned while doing my rear suspension is you do not necesarrily want the driveline "flat" at the u-joint by the pinion. It needs to match the angle of the u-joint in front of it, but opposite. The driveline will vibrate but being opposite it will cancel each other out. If you make the rear joint flat you will feel the front joint vibrating. The easiest way to tell is driveline vibes are just that, vibration. The axle wrap feels more like a push-stall-push-stall-push, sort of like when your towing someone and the line is jerking, just not so severe
