No oil? Or way too long in between changes? You have to try pretty hard to destroy a toyota motor. How many miles are on it?

You are not kidding about it being hard to destroy a Toyota motor.

My sister had a 99 4Runner that she drove everywhere and didn't replace her oil in it once for the entire time she owned it (4-5 years with the same oil filter). When the oil light came on, she'd just stop and pour oil into it. Didn't use the dip stick at all. She would just start the car up and if the light was off, she was good. Did this for 4-5 years almost, she bought it with 80k miles on it. When she sold it to her friend she asked me to do a tune up on it. And let me tell you that oil was something else. When I sea foamed the engine it was insane. Plugs were fouled out BAD, plug wires looked like they were stock, tranny had almost no fluid in it at all. Gave it a little TLC and it ran fine. Her friend still owns it, 200k+ miles on it, only her alternator has gone out and that's it.

    This!

I got my 89 from my father in aw about 2 years ago and it had been sitting for a few years. I drove it back from New Mexico and took it on a few trail runs and that was about it. When the Tacoma got wrecked I dove it for a month. Towards the end of that month I started doing some maintenance to it. When I pulled the dip stick there was nothing on it so I added oil until it showed full. I ended up adding 4 qts of oil. Who knows how long it was that low and the motor has 308k on it and it is the dreaded 3.slow. Motor has never been touched. Truck doesnt get driven that often but I always make sure to check fluids now.

No need, just keep running it. I would imagine you'll be able to get around 98k miles
