We should start to plan something like that. AF will likely be opening at the end of the month, which since we really haven't had much snow, I'd guess that Francis Peak would open about the same time, assuming they even bothered closing it due to farmington being closed.

I've been good. Just been working. Took the week off and went down to Moab with Z.

It was good. perfect weather. I didn't take any pics, but I think Z and his cousin did.

Only ran Gemini and Metal Masher since Z could only stay the one full day and had his cousin with him. The second half of MM is actually more rough than the first half with some pretty good drop offs. I actually hit my bumper on one. I think the truck is more capable than I am at this point, if that makes sense. The truck just walked up everything on the first try. I kinda wish someone with either more guts or more experience was with us to help know what would put the truck to its limits.

Here's a pic of my baby with out the front bumper and some roller tires on it when it was getting built. The front bumper is actually back on with some MTR 35x12.5x15. (These pics really dont do it justice with it all together. Maybe I'll wash and take some pics tomorrow)

I was in moab last weekend too and the weather was perfect! I ran top of the world, fins and things and hells revenge, and on hells there were 4 toyotas with us that were pretty sick. They did most of the side obstacles too. I was in a rubicon though for most of the time and not my taco.

I just looked at a house in Cedar Hills.... 2 miles from the entrance to AF Canyon. I pretend like I want to move there to help take care of my mom... but we all know the real reason. Weekends are for wheelin'. :)

Just kidding... it would be good to help out with my mom, but the bonus is we could have get togethers at my house, wrench-a-thons to install upgrades, and then go hit the trail at Tibble Fork across to Midway. That's a really fun ride. Pretty easy going, and a great place for taking good photos, and for those who want to bring their kids along because you have a few toilet stops up and across. You can even end up at Cascade Springs which is a great place.

I'm going to take my 8 year old boy up pretty soon. I'd like to put together a group ride if anybody is interested. I went up there a couple of times with the FJ guys back when I had my FJ's, and hopefully I can keep the tradition alive now that I'm a Tacoma owner.

Sounds good count me in! I live in p.g. and jut a couple miles from the canyon and am up there a lot wheeling/fishing/climbing/shooting/camping.

American Fork is always fun, and with many trails with multiple degrees of difficulty, there's always something for everyone.

I made it up there today and here is the update as promised. First I was wrong they have opened thegate at the on the Bountiful side however you can only make it a couples miles before the road is not passable.

Here is a link to my track today. You can see how far I was able to make it until being blocked by snow. I marked two lower elevation camping spots that are open.

    Open gate.

    End of road.

It's hard to see but that is Francis Peak (Framington Towers) in the distance. Looks like is a ton of snow still on the back side.

Camground 1 at the top. Still too much snow :(

Almost forgot, on my home I got cut off and then the person slammed on their brakes (Utah drivers ). With the bike in the back I wasn't about to slam on my brakes.

At least we learned All-Pro bumpers will stand up toconstruction barrels.

Thats too bad about the snow. I would've thought there would be a lot less up there after such a dry winter. 8500 ft is about what Forest Lake is at as well, so Mineral Basin would definately still be snowed in at 10k at the top. Even the Pittsburgh Lake Parking is at 8500ish.

The snow doesn't look bad compared to last year. One guy in the FJ crew ventured up AF at this point last year and it was closed just barely past Timp Cave... for those who know the area... that's VERY VERY low. Like not much higher than Provo. There were entire areas just washed out. The lower campgrounds had water coming directly through them.

We put off our May camping trip until the area we wanted to go to was open, and when it was finally open it was mid-July and I was out of time off and we never got to take it. Things were way bad last year.

Having a few road blockages like this and still early in the month means we're right about on track. Last year just resulted in so many washouts and massive amounts of rebuilding in every canyon that it took forever to get the roads passable again.

I think the last real good clear run I was able to make was up in the Currant Creek area by Strawberry in September of 2011 and that was when it was finally clear enough to go up and over at 10,500 feet. Some bowhunters we ran up to in that area said it was the longest "spring" they'd ever seen and things took an additional 2-3 months in most areas to clear.

If you can get up in the areas pictured above and the areas I'm talking about by the 1st of June then you're doing pretty well and it should be a good year for offroading.

For anybody who wants to make the AF run, let's plan one out. If you guys want to have a "bring your kids" kind of run, then there is a great spot right up at the top of the Tibble Fork trail (right in the middle of Timp) where you can stop and have s'mores and then there is a dropoff down to the river a few hundred feet below where the kids can run down and goof around by the river. I'll see if I can find some pics of it. But it's a good stopping point to get out and stretch and for those who have the photo bug, the scenery up in that area is AMAZING. Plus there are trails that branch off from there so people can take off from that "hub" and go try different difficulty levels of trails, and we can meet back up, rate them, I'll get some reports typed in really fast on them so we can post them up here... and then we can get pictures and descriptions of the different areas.

One thing that honestly worries me is people going up solo and not knowing where to go because the maps out there aren't the greatest quality and I've seen some kids up there completely and hopelessly lost in vehicles that weren't prepared for it. I think we can get some runs in and do some good for those who want to tackle the trails as well, and that's a good thing.

I am sure the FJ guys would love to come along as well. We typically only had 3-4 in the Utah County runs, but there were always 8-10 when they made a run up to the Golden Spike, which is another fun run we could do as a group out across the backside of the Great Salt Lake. I think they might have gone out to Antelope Island last year or the year before as well. Two more I want to throw in that I'm looking forward to in the next month or so are the Pony Express trail just for the historical aspect, and five mile pass. Probably could knock all of that out in one day. My brothers go camping at five mile once in a while and are always saddened that it has become a dumping ground. Anybody really wants to do a cleanup run then maybe Five Mile is the place to go.

I'm excited lets plan it. Another scenic family run is the old jeep road that leaves from timpanooke and runs around to the front side of timp and end up in huge fields above battle creek canyon

I would love to do the Golden Spike trail. I've seen a lotof pics from the Wasatch Cruisers guys and it looks like a good time. It would be a fun late fall early spring run.

I would even be down for a cleanup run. It kills me all thetrash I see out in the west dessert. I’man active shooter and I hate how so many others use the desert as a dumpingground to shoot their garbage and leave it out there. I make a point to fill up a couple trash bagsevery time I go out shooting in the west desert.

Lets get some dates on the calendar, AF, Francis Peak, Five Mile, Golden Spike etc.
