i just checked.my truck. it was built two weeks ago. i looked at the leaf springs and i see three large flat springs and one smaller (shorter) spring. does that mean i have the new 4 spring or old 3 spring setup?

    thanks

When mine was stock (up till a week ago) it did the little shudder off the line and had a slight vibe from 20 to 30 mph.
Now with a 6in lift and 35's the 20-30 vibe is reeeedickulous,
ordered the beefedtaco cb drop, hopefully it helps/?

Took my truck to the dealer today. They said it was normal but opened a case with Tacoma. I wonder what they will do now

You're going to have to really press Toyota USA - this is what I'm having to do. We may have to collectively act to get this fixed.

Because of my travel for work I haven't been able to take it back to the dealer AGAIN and demo the prob for the service manager (he wants to see when I'm feeling it the most so he can relay this to Toyota USA). Bottom line is the truck is malfunctioning, not behaving normally when it has serious driveline shake at the u-joints. I haven't even towed with it yet, having the drive shaft shake and grenade under stress while towing up hill isn't my idea of a desired Toyota ownership experience.

btw Thanks Jeff for the info so far! I'll keep contributing my updates as they occur too. I may go for the 4 leaf pack.

I'm totally dissatisfied with the 2012 Toyota Tacoma, and this is my first Toyota ever.

Let us know if this helps. If not, your truck had a problem to begin with so if you get Toyota involved they may want to bring it back to stock config. This is why I haven't done any mods at all, 100% bone stock so Toyota USA can fix this without blaming me. Sucks because I would like to make it my own.

I'll post my next update as it occurs.

yeah, im def not taking it back to stock(would have to buy a new front crossmember and knuckles to get it back to stock) for them to fix it. I knew what was going to happen when i lifted it so i will take the responsibility for fixin it.

Just thought I would give and update to my story. Had a second appointment at the dealer to remove my aftermarket wheels and tires and put stockers on from new truck on the lot. That day I went in and drove the truck with the tech on the stock tires and of course the vibration is still there. The service manager insisted that the tires were to blame but this disproved that. Just for the heck of it the tech and I drove the new truck they got those tires from and sure enough it had the vibration and it was worse than my truck.

The service manager suggested we contact Toyota engineers and see how to proceed. For my third appointment Toyota requested the dealer remove the rear drive line and road test in 4High. I went in and test drove it with the tech again without the rear drive line and it was smooth as silk. After that the service manager told me they would have to get all that info to Toyota and see what they want to do.

Well to much my surprise today I received a call from the dealer and they said Toyota is working on a TSB for the 2012 driveline vibration but he said they had no date for the release. Needless to say I am not holding my breath but this is hopeful. I just hope it’s not just extending the existing TSB that is out for the older trucks and it’s a real fix.

^ thanks for the update, that's at least somewhat encouraging- the fact that it goes away when the rear drive line is removed should be proof enough that either the angle or length of the drive shaft needs attention

HAH! 'working on it' They told me that about my squeaky leafs til I came on here and saw a TSB has already been put out. Maybe the guy is right but I feel like that's their 'don't call us, we'll call you' line.

I have a '12 Tacoma DC Offroad shortbed that has the same vibration also. I only have 1300 miles on my Taco but I've felt the vibration from day 1, especially when towing a trailer. The weight of the trailer makes the steering wheel vibrate so badly on acceleration that I can actually see it moving. Mine seems to be worse from 5-25, then it turns smooth as silk.

Also, on deceleration, it feels like the front rotors are vibrating...but i know they aren't. I most certainly have the issue you guys are talking about. I'm going to keep driving it and plan on giving my dealership a heads up to take a deeper look when it gets the 5K service in a few months.

One of my coworkers bought the same truck a week after me andvhis is fine. My truck is bone stock and I plan on Toyota making it right.

Couldn't agree more. Mine vibrates alot when I go up a hill. And in general the vibrations start right at 5mph up to 25-30mph.

Also now I've noticed every time I hit the brakes from any speed above like 30mph the car isnt smooth and shakes.

Toyota needs to make this right. Please call Toyota USA and start a claim

they told me the same thing. she also said 'we are aware of it' whatever that means. i expressed that i have never had to call a car manufacturer about a problem until this, my first Toyota. Not pleased at all. i am far from a high maintenance customer but this truck drives like a complete piece of shit.

PLEASE, toyota, PLEASE fix this issue!!!!!!!

I'll be calling Toyota to inform them of my issue. I also plan on composing an email to the service manager at my local dealership so they have a heads-up and can research solutions before I show up with my truck there. I only have 1,300 miles on it and it will probably be 4 months before I reach 5,000 so waiting until I get it serviced may be too long. My excpectation is for Toyota to make it 100% correct. This is my 5th Toyota truck and even though I'm a Toyota guy at heart, it will be my last if Toyota doesn't stand behind it.
