    I think youre gonan have to take them off to get to the bottom of that sound. Kinda sounds like you have a broken coil.....

    The top plate is supposed to have a flanged washer/bushing that keeps the shaft centered, right? Maybe one was left out when the top plate was put back on. Missing one of those parts will cause the shaft to have play but still retained.

    Wow, after really watching that vid, dont know about anyone else but i see a shit load of movement in the shock tower with the coil , shit is loose & jumping around & that clacking noise has almost have to be the coil whether its broken or theres a winding ready to collapse on itself, damn sure sounds like the coil was thrown on without top plate (not saying it is)

    or its possible you got the wrong springs (too short) how hard were they to compress ??

    I took them to the shop to get them compressed originally so I'm not sure how hard they were to actually compress onto the shock, but they were a booger to get on. We tried to do it ourselves when I installed the Dakars, but it didn't work out because we couldn't get the LCA down low enough to fit them on. Shop manager said it took 4 of them and about an hour to get the first one on...

    No trail blasting for me... this is my DD so I try not to wheel it too hard... I'll take it down a few power line trails, but nothing severe

    He said he had Bilsteins and OME 881's...which I'm assuming are fine with 1st gens, as I've got the same setup and running OME 885's on a 2011...

    OP, do you have a Gopro or some sort of video camera you can like velcro/duct tape to shit into or near your wheel well so we can actually see whats happening? And then blast over some street gutters or speed bumps or something lol

    Hard to see what's really going on in that video,

    but to me, it looked like maybe there's WAY too much play in the upper ball joint and it's separating and striking, making the noise???

    Try jacking up the truck with the wheel on and letting the wheel droop, see if you can see anything.

    Yeah It's 881's which is the mid spring for the 1st gens (recommended with stock bumpers).... I wish I had a go pro camera to strap in there, it would hopefully answer my question as to what it was

    does anyone think that this could be in anyway the direction the coil is facing? by this I mean on the passenger side coil seat is facing outward towards the wheel, where as on the drivers side, the start of the coil seat is facing inward towards the engine....

    and by the coil seat, I mean the bottom perch and the beginning/open end of the coil. I know this is probably a long shot, but it's the only difference I see between the 2 shock sets.
