I have a 2011 TRD Sport that i am thinking of trading for the 2012 Offroad. Its going to be 1 year old in July and just going to have 9700 miles on it tomorrow. Has anyone else traded in there 11 sport? If so what did you get for it. Mines a double cab long bed V6. I was hoping not to loose to much but I can see it costing about 5K or so. Any thoughts. I want A-Trak and all the other goodies.

aww man you spelling it wrong so DavidK won't be able to find this thread later.

A locker is better than a-trac and costs a lot less than $5k. That's my two cents.

Yea, I'd definitely entertain the option of adding an aftermarket locker rather than buying a whole new truck. Although see what deal they would work out first as far as the trade and everything.

I just traded my 2010 4x4 DC Off Road for essentially the same 2012 truck.
I was just over 15000 miles. They gave me $26,700 (does not include tax benefit) and sold me the new one for $300 over invoice plus $500 rebate and $500 mil rebate. It was hard for me to pass up. I looked at the dealer's website this week and he's asking $32k for my truck - seems high even considering mine was super clean.
Anyway - I think if you beat up the dealer some you should be over $27,500 if its a 4x4 and clean. They did offer me $25K initially and I told them we were too far away, thanks for your time. Needless to say they called me back the next day.
    Good luck.

Would have been a pretty important thing to forget to note.

Also I suspect the thread would be called "trading in a prerunner for 4x4" if that were the case.

Seems like good advice so far. I would go lockers unless the dealership can come up with some really good deal.

Traded a 2011 TRD Sport Access Cab two weeks ago...had 18k miles...got $23,500. Seeing as how I only paid $25,300 a year go I was happy.

I think the Offroad could be a better value long term unless your know you are going to drive your truck until the wheels come off. Besides being a newer model year with fewer miles, adding an aftermarket locker is going to make your truck seem like a ragged out off road beater to any future buyer/trade in. If you are going to keep your truck long term then the aftermarket locker starts looking like a better deal.

Seriously? I guess there's a lot of ragged out beaters here then.

Fact is most buyers start having serious concerns with modded vehicles. The quality of the parts and the work done has little to do with it - most buyers don't have a clue what they're looking at. The buyers that do almost always think they can do it better for cheaper (like most of the folks on this site). I've seen it to many times, not just w/ these trucks, but with all manner of aftermarket performance items.

I'm not saying it's necessarily an accurate perception or fair - but it is what it is. Mainstream America looks at modded vehicles as enthusiast vehicles that have been driven hard. Enthusiasts look at modded vehicles and think, "well that's okay, but I would change this, this, this and this...."

My experience is that adding heavy duty aftermarket parts to any vehicle degrades it's value, it doesn't upgrade it.

    Just my opinons/experience.

Are you trying to get a short bed?

Nah, I know its the only option but would rather the long bed, and for the other guy up top it is a 4X4. What I did is bought the truck when i lived in another part of the country. Now I live in the deep South and can 4 wheel everyplace. Was thinking of doing ARB's before i posted this to begin with but with 9700 miles on it i didn't want to start breaking in to the gears and stuff. I had a CJ7 for years but don't want to start all kinds of modding especially ones that will void a warranty on a new truck. I was figuring I will have to make payments for a few more years, i may as well want the truck i am paying for. I was also considering the yellow wire mod. Been reading around on here for a while but i figure if i were to trade i don't see the truck being worth any more than it is now. I suppose maybe i should get it stuck out in the woods first, then bitch about it.

Wasn't the original question about trading vehicles and how much they might lose...and not about which 4X4 mod to get?

If you know you want a long bed and aren't even sure you need atrac yet, then yellow wire mod it, go wheel the mofo, and find out if you'll actually need to change. Then get a locker. You'll probably need the long bed more often than you'll need atrac.
