:cool:Today the federal cigarette tax will increase by 62 cents to a total of $1.01 per pack!!

Smokers interested in quitting due to the federal tax increase can access free tools and resources at http://www.nicorette.com.
Nicorette is giving away a free starter pack of Nicorette White Ice Mint gum while supplies last.

We can't afford for people to quit smoking. What we need is to get more people hooked.... If 80% of the non smoking population started smoking a pack a day we could pay off the stimulus package before our kids die.

as a smoker, i'm not going to live nearly as long as a non-smoker will...so therefore, i will actually be LESS of a burden to the healthcare system than they will...unless non-smokers plan being perfectly healthy until the moment they die. a non-smoker will require much more elderly care than i, who will be dead. so who's costing more money now?

The new tax has nothing to do with Smokers health or what they may cost in the future, it will be used to expand the federally-funded State Children's Health Insurance Program.

So by smoking I'm doing my part to provide insurance for some kid, WTF are you Non smokers doing to contribute besides whine about the evil smokers

bone stock save for the block lift that came on it with the open country m/t.
in the end, you will be less money, but for a short time, health care cost will be a bitch. Being dependent on an inhaler, and a six foot oxygen cord??? I don't think so. Steroids will be your friend and saying " I can't breathe" will be commonly heard....sound fun? I can think of better ways to die. From what I hear lung cancer is not a way to go either. Long term steroid use has it's side effects too. How do I know? I see this shit everyday, but alas, it's your lungs. :D

True, however thats assuming that there aren't any advances in cancer treatment in the future.

Oh, and so when you get to be 65, you and all your fellow smokers are going to deny accepting money from medicare?

I'm really not all that vocal on the issue, but you have to be realistic about this...it will cost all taxpayers in the long run. Those of us who made more responsible decisions about our health will have to carry those who didn't...like this mortgage bailout situation.

I went to go buy a pack of cigarettes this morning and it was nearly $6, and none of my local gas stations are doing buy 1 get 1s anymore. Because of this I quit smoking this morning. I'm not paying $6 for 1 pack when I used to be able to get 2 for the same price. Guess thats more money I can spend randomly driving around in my truck.
