    Hey guys,

Went to install my 2" AAL the other day and my rear shocks could use a swap. I'm putting bilstein 5100 adjustables in the front and figure I should match them in the back and go with the 5100 non adjustables. My question is, which shocks do I need? The 0-1.5" lift or the 3"-4" lift? Probably a really stupid question but I'm just curious because when I initally bought the AAL I called toytec and they said that the stock rear shocks would be sufficent, but now that I'm going to be replacing them I figure I would get the right ones.

I'm also not opposed to going with a different shock, something maybe a little less $ but will do the trick if anyone has any suggestions. As always any input is helpful. Thanks guys.

Depends on what your usage will be. For light trail riding or on road driving, the stock travel 5100's will be fine. If you really like to flex out the truck, you might want to consider the extended travel shocks but might have to do something about your bump stops (you want to make sure the bump stops hit before the shock bottoms out). Talk to someone like Downsouth Motorsports and they'll get you set up with what you need.

Are you talking about the 5150's instead of the 5100's? You should be fine with the 5100's, I had those on my truck with a 2" AAL for a couple of years before I swapped out to reservoirs.

There are 2 lengths for the 5100's and the 2" AAL officially puts you in that grey area between the two.

The standard length 5100's would be fine. I'm running 2" of lift with those shocks and haven't had any issues.

On DSM's site, they say the standard travel 5100's are for 0 - 1" rear lift and the extended travel are 3 - 4" of lift so a 2' AAL puts you in no man's land.

You can go with 5125 or 5150 but they require the eye to stem adapter which causes you to lose a couple inches of travel due to the adapter length.

Shouldn't, just make sure they're valved well enough to dampen the stiffer rear because of the AAL.

Not to threadjack, but what other shocks are okay for the 2" AAL? My boyfriend has the AAL on his 07 extended cab and I wanted to get him new shocks (he just hit 100k on the originals) but I want to make sure I get him a good set that will have the right amount of travel. He has a camper shell on the bed and tows his boat alot.

    In my sig
I went with DSM and got the 3-4" 5100's. The 0-1.5 are the same length as stock. So you aren't getting a longer shock just different valving. I recommend 3-4". And extend your bumpstop or just leave the bumpstops where they are at like most of those running the long 5100's.

I've never heard any, those are probably what I'll end up getting as well.

Yeah. I'm not opposed to paying more for the bilsteins, I just figure since I'm not gonna be doing any offloading a stockish shock should do.

On toytec they say that these ProComps are longer than a "normal" shock but don't give a measurement. Will these work with my 2" AAL or are they more like the billy 5100 for the 3"-4" lifts?

Spoke with toytec and the guy didn't know the length of the procomps but said either the KYBs or the procomps should be fine.

I'm just gonna go with the KYBs. I can get them by the weekend so I can finally put all my new stuff on. My lift, wheels, and tires have been sitting in my garage since March.
