I'm going to start piecing my suspension together starting Friday. I need some input on anything I am missing that I will need. I've gone back and forth and back and forth on what suspension to get and I finally figure, if I'm going to do it...I might as well get a great system rather than something else and regret it. Let me know if you guys think I need anything else. Thanks in advance!

    1. Icon extended travel reservoir coilovers.
    2. Icon reservoir rear shocks.
    3. Total Chaos UCA's
    4. Alcan rear leaf springs. (or would an AAL be fine to get a full 3 inches?)
    5. Extended brake lines.
    6. U Bolt flip kit.
    7. Diff drop.
    8. Carrier bearing drop.
    9. Sway Bar relocate brackets.
    10. Timbren Bump Stops.

My goal is to fit 285's. I do a bit of light offroading but nothing serious but I want a suspension that I am def going to be satisfied with and after reading all the reviews on ICON / Fox / King I have decided that Icon is the one for me.

    - Take the swaybar off.
    - Don't bother with the diff drop.
    - Hold off on the carrier bearing drop - you may not need it period.
    - Get a full leaf pack for the rear, I would suggest Old Man Emu Dakars.
    - Extended brake lines are not necessary, but if you want to, go for it.

Thanks man! What exactly does the sway bar do? Is it dangerous to remove it?

Also consider super bump bump stops instead. Much less expensive for a piece of rubber.
I agree with jandrews up there, full leaf pack is worth it. I like my all pro expos. But have heard nothing but good things about the dakars as well.

"Dangerous" is always such a tricky word.

The swaybar decreases body roll but also decreases front suspension travel. If you're going to higher spring rates on your front coils (and you are) you won't really notice a difference in control, especially if you're not adding armor. You may notice the truck leans a tad more.

I would say get everything done, take it for a few test drives without the swaybar on, decide what you think. Its very easy to reinstall if you decide you want it back. Personally I'll never touch mine again.

Disclaimer: I take no responsibility for what you eventually decide to do. Your truck :)

Super bumps do provide better ride quality than Timbrens. They also help with loads compared to the regular factory bumpstops, but not to the degree Timbrens do (just like Timbrens can't match up with airbags).

If ride quality is priority #1, get the superbumps front and rear. If you want more load stbility than an aftermarket leaf pack alone gives you, get superbumps front, timbrens or airbags in the rear.

That's one way of many to approach resolving vibes from driveline angle. What vibes you will or won't have you won't know til you lift, and it's different for everyone because of manufacturing tolerances.

I got lucky. I lifted my shit 3.5" and the only vibe I had was carrier bearing shudder from 5-10 mph on takeoff.

I first shimmed the carrier bearing down about 1/4" with grade 8 washers from Lowes. This decreased the shudder intensity by 75%. About 6 months after that, I went to a one-piece driveshaft which cured the issue entirely.

Personally I'd hold on the shims until you feel you have a reason to put them in.

Thanks for all the help guys! I'm pretty excited to start my lift. I was wondering though...how often do the ICON's need to be rebuilt?

So I've heard when they start feeling "sloppy" or valving starts to feel different than before? I have used ones that were rebuilt 15k ago and have 30k on them total....they ride like a dream! Prob depends on how often you beat on them but they can take some abuse that's for sure!

"Safe" bet is to rebuild every 50 to 75k or so or 5 years. As always, wear depends on usage and environment. If you're running around in desert and dust, you're gonna wear out the seals more quickly.

I've seen the innards of a few sets being rebuilt after 70k or so miles and the oil was in pretty bad shape. I wouldn't go much longer than that.

Thanks for all the info guys! I got the icon remote reservoir extended travel coilovers, icon rear shocks with remote reservoir, Dakar rear leaf springs, camburg uniball uca's, u bolts, superbump bump stops and I got the diff and carrier bearing drop just in case I need them! Ordered from wheelers offroad. Just waiting till Monday for them to get with me on shipping. Anyone know how long their shipping takes? The coilovers & uca's ship free.

You forgot cab mount chop plates. 285/70R17 or 285/75R16 will rub your cab mounts under compression with uniball UCA that adds caster.

I have to disagree with the sway bar removal. I had mine disco'd for a while, and a guy on the freeway cut into my lane, and when I swerved out of the way, the truck dam near rolled. This was with 650# springs. I have had similare things happen when the swaybar was installed, and there was never any drama. However, I do agree with Jandrews saying to take it for a drive to see for yourself. One persons perception of body roll is different than anothers.

I got mine from BAMF but had to up my caster over 3 to not rub under compression at full lock.

Don't forget to get extended SS brake lines, you should get them at least 4 inches longer. I have the icon est travel resis front with the camburg 1.25 UCA's, dakar pack, 2.5 rear resi's also. I am also running a 1/2 inch top plate in the front with the icon's so i really don't need to crank them up for extra lift. Cab mount chop, flip kit, and the sway bar relocation brackets come with the shocks. I'd say keep the sway bar, i've had to redo my alignment so many times. I need to rebuild my leaf pack as i have some good back lean. Do the diff breather mod also. And remember to grease your bolts when installing everything back together.
