I am looking to get a remote starter for my truck.
There are alot out there and get confusing. All I am wanting to do is start my tuck from inside the house.
Is there any quality remote starters for $200 or do I need to up my price range for a solid starter?
Brand, model numbers, pros and cons..... Any opinions appreciated.

I don't have one in my Tacoma as of yet. But did have a Viper in my 2005 4Runner and in an Nissan Xterra before that... neither ever gave me any problems. Cost about $300-350 installed in both.

Viper seemed to be the brand of choice.
Is this an install that would be better left to the professionals or could it be done by me?
I've done some electronic installs. Radios, amps, speakers. Thats about it.
Not sure if I want to tackle this myself or not.

Don’t do it ! it’s one of the hardest mod to do. I can install stereos, dvd players, speakers, pretty much all car audio including tinting the windows but this is one thing i can’t do. Cheapest you can get is for $275. Some places sell them with installation for $300 depending onm your location. I would leave this to them. It worth paying $100 bucks for installation.

I havent herd good things about just the remote starters. From what I have read people say to get the alarm and remote start from Viper. I got the Viper 5704 2 way alarm and remote start for 500 installed. The piece of mind is worth every penny and the remote start is like the cherry on top.

If you have never installed a remote start system, I would not recommend it. I too have installed stereos and such, but had a nightmare when installing my first Viper alarm/keyless entry/remote start system in my 99 Cavalier. I have an AAS Electronics Technician degree (not trying to toot my own horn) and along with help it took us 7 hours to install. On top of that, my car would not start and run even with the key. We eventually figured out the problem and got it working, but it can be a real headache. Also, It was difficult (at the time) to get anyone to sell you a Viper system without installation included. They would let me install it myself, but still wanted to charge me the installation. I finally found a dealer in CA that sold it to me without the installation charge. Once I completed the install, I called to tell him "thank you" and he proceeded to ask me how where I connected one of the wires (don't remember what is was anymore). Apparently, his techs had trouble as well.

This is one I'd leave to the professionals. I'd just use a reputable installer. The place I go to has a warranty on the work in the event something goes wrong.. as I'd say Toyota would blame the remote, so it's a good backup to know they'd take care of it. Good luck.. you can't go wrong with a Viper. I've had just the remote starters, but have friends that have both the alarm and remote... never heard of any issues with either.

Has anyone had any experience with Best Buy installing their remote starters?
They are about $200 cheaper than a local car stereo shop. Just don't know what kind of job they do.

Best Buy by me was running a special for a Viper remote start+installation for $200. Passed it up so I can use that $200 towards a lift and keep using the sunshade, lol. Living in a desert and having a black truck, I should get one lol. However, in my old car, I didn't have an alarm and had best buy install one and I never once had a problem and installation was very clean, no wires showing or anything, even under the hood.

I got a viper remote start and alarm from best buy..great service and clean install..only thing is the extra cash for the bypass for the stock alarm

We have used 2 Avitals in our family, wife has one on her 08 Solara and then she got one for her mom and dads Tacoma. The Avital is the same brand that Cadillac uses for their stock remote systems. We love ours. They have excellent range on the remote to get it started from far away. The system itself is pretty inexpensive too. Getting Best Buy to install it was a bit different. AT the time I worked part time at Best Buy (just to get their employee discount :D) I paid total like 160 bucks for the unit and install. Now her mom and dad Taco was right at 300 for everything I think.

In the end we are very happy with the Avital system and I would recomend it to anyone.

My first mod on my truck was a Viper 5901. I had this done 3 years ago and its still working flawlessly. It took me and my buddy about 5 hours to get it installed. If you have never done one before I would get help from professionals

Wondering if you're still happy with the starter. My wife bought me one but I was hesitant to go ahead and get it installed.

    Too few to list.
I had the viper in another truck and had no problems with it.
