Sound Deadening Wheel Wells?

OK, I know I shouldn't be worrying about this sort of trivial stuff, butI've already put a lot of time into acoustic treatments for the cab (i.e. Raammat,Closed Cell Foam and MLV on all interior surfaces except the headliner, whichonly got Raammat). I've got a 2012 Sport DC and after all this sound proofing,the vehicle is incredibly quite with one exception. When I'm blazing downgravel roads, the tires throw a lot of rocks into the thin plastic wheel wellliners. If the vehicle wasn't already so quite I might not notice, but aftereverything else I've done, it is really pronounced.

Has anyone been successful dealing with this sound source? I'm thinking aboutapplying Raammat to the backside of the plastic pieces in an attempt to dampenthe sound. Other than pointing out the obvious fact that I've lost my mind,does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations?

 

Did you put deadner or MLV over the wheel wells? Some people have put spray on deadner on the wells with success.

 

I did the front wheel wells on my S10 when I had it. Not sure if it was worth the $ and time but like you, I was going for absolute silence, or as close to it as I could get. Just make sure you use a product impervious to water, obviously. What about attacking the engine bay first?

I have not yet put deadener or MLV in the wells. The metal in the wells already seems to be fairly dampened so there might not be much benefit, but the plastic bits are like little snare drums. I think I'll try to dampen them, but worry that if I add too much weight, they might tear off. I'm amazed by how much play there is in the plastic pieces. Somehow, I have a feeling this MOD is going to backfire on me.

 

MLV will block noise but my guess is it's more effective to stop the noise from happening at all. Since this is a noise caused from impacts (many) I would suggest doing a rubber spray in bedliner material in the wheel wells/liners. That should keep the noise from getting created in the first place.

 

I think you are correct. Anyways, I can't see how MLV could even be attached anywhere in the wells. In addition to the spray on material, I'll try putting some Raammat on the backside of the plastic pieces. Rocks would tear it to pieces in no time so the plastic needs to be allowed to take all the hits.
