    If I had to get one or the other I'd get a toolbox. Really having both would be awesome though. I have a Tonneau Cover on my truck and a small tool box that was originally used as the side box on an F-350 that sit close to the cab. It not huge but it stores my camping gear and other odds and ends.

    I have a tonneau and love it. I also have a rubber mat that keeps things from sliding around. It keeps things dry and "out of sight, out of mind." No one knows if I have something in the bed or not. If you go with a tonneau avoid the snaps. They are terrible. My new one is from trucksido and it uses velcro with integrated metal poles. Roles up in one piece.
    I didn't want the tool box because you lose bed space. Good luck picking...

    unless you need to lock up tools that are worth as much or more than the tool box itself then a tonneau is the way to go IMHO

    Hey man this is the exact kind of setup I want to switch to. What kind of tonneau cover is yours? And was it pricey? Also I'll get a toolbox that sits under the bed rail so I can fit my atv in the bed safely. I have a uws tool box right. Ow that I will be selling in the near future.

    Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
    They make hard folding tonneau covers that lock, I'd go for one of those. I've got a soft folding tonneau that works well for me, and I keep a red toolbox with all the tools I need behind the passenger seat in the cab. I only use the tonneau in the winter because I hate shoveling snow out of the bed, just so nice to pull it back and have a dry bed.

    I would rather have the cover so I could leave stuff in my bed overnight with out people seeing what's in there like my fire gear when I have in my personal vehicle..also sometimes I have move stuff inside cause I stay at my girlfriends house who lives in an apartment with a parking lot in a small borough so it'd be nice to cover up what's in there and prevent snow from piling up..if I had money to get one I would but I'd go with soft one u can roll up so I don't lose the option of having the full bed with no height limitation.

    I know most people like things nice and centered, but I wanted some length (full 6') in my bed, and some long storage as well. I had a custom steel box made, 24" wide, 50" long, as tall as the top of the bed, positioned on the passenger side. Secured down of course, but with some quick releases hidden inside. Just stand at the side of the truck, unlock and lift the lid and there is all is. Mostly road trouble stuff inside, tools and such. Nice place to stash guns and fishing rods.

    Was reading another thread about Taco-tilt. This idea might help.

    I'll get a pic up when I can.
