Difference between LSD, electronic and Air Locker

    Hello everyone,

    this is my first post so I hope I don't come off as too much of a noob.

    I recently bought a 2012 4x4 Double Cab TRD Sport Tacoma.

    I bought the sport over the off-road because it seemed more practical for daily use. I did have plans of taking it off road, but didn't think it would be this soon..

    I am hoping that i didn't make a poor financial choice, and that someone will come here and tell me that the locker on the off-road is crappy and would be replaced with a Air locker anyways..

    I guess my question is this, would I have been better off getting the off-road for the electronic locker it has, or is a air locker far superior to the OEM locker with tacomas?

    In this video they are comparing: Limited-slip differential, Electronic traction control(is this the same as the locker in OEM off-road tacomas?), and a Air-Lockers

    You're fine. That truck is more than capable of getting you into and out of lots of trouble.

    There are lots of other upgrades you will probably want to do before you get a locker anyway - tires, lift, etc etc.

    There will always be some limiting factor that causes you to get stuck or not be able to navigate an obstacle. Don't sweat it.

    Just asking cause the TRD Offroad only comes in shortbed .

    If you wanted a shortbed and you bought it with wheeling in mind then the most capable stock truck would be the Offroad 4x4 .

    Having said that , depending on how difficult of terrain you are going to be up against , a 4x4 Sport is also capable .

    Well guys thanks for the quick responses! I was in a funk because I just felt like a made the wrong picked based on the 2nd use I had in mind for the truck.

    I have all of these things on my check list of "to-dos"

    Suspension Lift: 6" Fabtech, or Pro-Comp?
    Wheels: No idea, suggestions?
    Tires: Nitto Trail Grapplers
    Locker: ARB Front and Rear Air Lockers

    Anything else I should be adding?



    Edit: In reply to the longbed/shortbed, im guessing the only reason to get a sport is for the longbed, most defiantly not for the non-functional hood scoop!

    But then I wouldn't have gotten the hood scoop! ;)

    Na honestly when I bought the sport it was that" I want a vehicle that has 4WD when/if I need it. Not for fun"

    The Sport came with a few, UN-important additions that I didn't mind spending the money on

    If you're going to 33" tires and going locked front and rear, you'll want to regear to 4.56 while they have the differentials apart.

    You realize you've just run up a tab of around $10k - give or take - with that list, right?

    color-keyed bumpers, back up cam, navigation, originally the suspension, which doesn't matter now.

    Wife drives the truck too okay
