Air compressor problems !HELP!

I installed an on board air compressor system with air horns on my truck about a month ago. I also installed two seperate switches (on for compressor and one for horns) And a Blue Sea breaker and fuse box. Everything worked great untill this afternoon. This morning it all worked and I went to start my truck up early and start my compressors and they didnt turn on. I then went to hit the horns and they didnt work either. So I went straight to the fuse box thinking there was something wrong. Fuses are good and so is the breaker. I have 3 sets od HID lights hooked up to the same fuse box and they all work so I kinda eliminated that its the breaker or fuse box. But IDK why it would just all of a sudden stop working, I didnt go offroading or in water or anything so Im having a hard time finding the problem.
Any Tech guys or electrical guys in here think u can help me out? Please? I wanna find the easiest way possible to find out the problem without taking all the wiring out cuz its alot and will take a long time. Thanks for any help!

Is there an inline fuse from the fuse box to the compressor that might have popped?

 

no the way its set up is a direct line from my battery to a sea blue breaker then the sea blue breaker to a 12 fuse fuse box. I have them running to the fuse box which illiminates the inline fuse. And I checked them and they were good which makes me believe that it would have to be from the fuse box to the inside of my truck where the switched are. But IDK how something would go wrong there all of a sudden. Doesnt make sense to me

 

Try hooking your compressor straight to the battery for a second.

That will at least give you a place to start to look. Either a dead compressor or a problem in the switch.. Also try cleaning your terminals on your fuse block. They can get corded after a while.

 

I like the first idea. I doubt the terminals a corroded though since his setup it's only a month old. But you never know. My guess would be it's probably the switch or a short between the compressor and the switch.

 

but the horn button and compressor button are seperate wiring and all and neither of them are working. I just tried going out and switching the hook ups to the fuse box and cleaning them. Still doesnt work and im getting power to them cuz the fuse indicator showed it.

 

if ur compressor doesnt work, then ur not going to have air to your horns, to make them work. so it could be something with ur compressor. or u might have had a wire come loose off the switch of the compressor. actually happened to me recently.

 

I will still have air to my horns cuz i have an air tank with air still in it. Woke up this morning and the horns worked but the compressor switch still isnt

 

Go back through your wiring. Grounds, supply wires and connections. Electrical is usually something simple you over look.

 

You should have a pressure switch somewhere controlling the compressor on and off cycle (my VIAIR system does) they are notorious for being flakey. Give it a few taps with a screwdriver or something....and check the siring to it....

 

yeah I guess im going to have to tear my dash apart again to check the wiring. Thats the last thing I wanted to do cuz pretty much the whole dash has to com off, UGH. O well. And yeah I checked the pressure switch wasnt that. I feel like it has to be th wiring in my dash somewhere

 

Louie, you need to quit guessing about these connections and check them. You need to use or buy a 12 volt test light or a electrical test meter, and starting at your connection to your battery check all your power connectors and see if they have power. If all the power connections are good, connect your ground lead from your test light or your negative lead from your test meter to your battery positive connector on your battery and use the postive lead or your test light to check your grounds.
If you made your wire connections with crimped wire connectors, there is a chance that a wire has pulled out or is broken inside a connector and you not know it. Good Luck.

 

So before u said anything i did that. i went straight to my relay and started checking them. all wires are getting good power except for the wire going to the pressure switch. So I think with allt he rain we got i fried my relay. So Im going to go buy a new relay and see if that fixes it

 

Good idea for ALL wiring, cut the wire you need and solder it all with shrink wrap around the connections. Two fails safe's from corrosion and wire coming undone. In cases this is not possible, electrical tape and sealant will help keep out the elements.
