I worked for a company that was acquired and whose products are in many of Broadcom's components. Name the original company.

I'll give you a hint. The acquiring company is a major component in most cell phones.

well, let me go down the list...

a few acqs for baseband, bluetooth, digital & 3D video & compression... one each for GPS, NFC, and 4GLTE

hard list to choose from, but since you said most I will take that literally and go with GPS : Global Locate? :notsure:

    Nope.

The acquiring company produces a product that uses the original companies product (which is included in many broadcom products separately).

Another hint. Companies like Qualcomm and Apple use these products.

So I have been running the Linksys EA3500 now for about 2 weeks. So far so good, pretty decent router. I get great speeds on WAN/LAN. It doesn't have the same range as the Asus did, but the interface isn't written by a 3 year old like Asus's was.

I'm hoping DD-WRT comes out with their firmware for this router.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
one good thing i heard about L-3 was that they paid 15-20% better for the same job than GD did...at least on Bragg.

Any of you guys know Powershell? I'm trying to get my server to email me when a certain service fails, but the stupid service name isn't recognized by Powershell due to the periods in the name.

Is there a way I can get the service name recognized?

    Code:
    #Environment Data
    $currenttime = Get-Date -UFormat %r
    $computer = get-content env:computername

    #Email Configuration
    $smtpServer = "mailserver.mymailserver.com"
    $smtp = new-object Net.Mail.SmtpClient($smtpServer)
    $msg = new-object Net.Mail.MailMessage
    $msg.From = "support@mycompany.com"
    $msg.To.Add("me@mycompany.com")
    $msg.To.Add("myboss@mycompany.com")
    $msg.To.Add("support@mycompany.com")

    #Gather event data
    $eventdata = Get-EventLog -newest 1 -log Application -EntryType Error -Source [B][COLOR="Red"]Scheduler4.5.34.64[/COLOR][/B]

    #Build and send email
    $msg.Subject = "Service Failed"
    $msg.Body = "TESTING PLEASE IGNORE!!!
    Service Failed
    Time: $currenttime
    Server: $computer
    `nPlease restart the service
    `nEventLog Error Data:`n
    "

    $msg.Body = $msg.Body + $eventdata.message
    $smtp.Send($msg)

I'm not familiar with the program but can you make a variable, assign it the service name and then pass it to the function or put it in quotes? My guess is that the program thinks it's an object (like Net.Mail.MailMessage)

    e.g.
    $source = "Scheduler4.5.34.64"
    $eventdata = Get-EventLog -newest 1 -log Application -EntryType Error -Source $source

    or
    $eventdata = Get-EventLog -newest 1 -log Application -EntryType Error -Source "Scheduler4.5.34.64"

^^ x2 to try quotes around the service name .. anything that has . or spaces will make traditional CMDlets upset, so maybe the same applies here

Well first off, I found that the name of my service is different in the event log (it's "timeXtender 4.5.34.61"), so I corrected that.

I did as Evil Monkey described (note that the double quotes are mandatory in either solution he provides), but it comes up with error:

    Code:
    Get-EventLog: No matches found
    At c:\scripts\myscript.ps1:16 char:26 + $eventdata = Get-EventLog <<<< -newest 1 -log Application -EntryType Error -Source $source
    + CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (:) [Get-EventLog], ArgumentException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : GettEventLogNoEntriesFound,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.GetEventLogCommand

Event though I can see the error in my event log. I'm wondering if I'm still getting the name wrong?

    Success!
Talked with our PowerShell expert (he's been away at conferences).
I think I've learned, "when in doubt, add more quotes"
    Here's the answer:

    $source = "timeXtender 4.5.29.64"
    $eventdata = Get-EventLog -newest 1 -log Application -EntryType Error -Source "$source"

Does anyone else type too fast and end up calling it 'PoserShell'? lol

Hey guys, I know you are busy and all, but I have a really important task I need help with. I did a search on AOL today and they said I could speed up my productivity in dBASE if I did this. Can one of you come over and help me do this? I'm really good at software but I leave my hardware to the experts. I've got a fine tuned machine and I don't want to mess it up!

I just realized there's a severe lack of innuendo in the computer field. They took away our balls and removed our floppies. All we have left is our dongles.
