6-speeders: At what RPM do you usually shift?

Just curious.

Every manual tranny I've ever owned made a "shift me" note in the engine at around 2200 RPM (under non-aggressive driving situations) and the new Tacoma is no different.

If you're just tooling around town, when do you shift?

 

My shifts average 2100-2300 rpm for around town I guess.

Since I don't drive much city/stop&go, generally I look at my shifting on uphill or downhill terrain. The exhaust does a good job of talking to me.

Uphill or under a load, 2400-2700
Downhill or no load 1800-2000

Towing, obvoiusly shifts are higher.

 

I don't like shifting until the rev limiter kicks in, JK

 

1800-2000 rpm, nice and easy, keeping the fuel gauge as calm as I can

 

Usually 2100-2500, engine rarely goes to 3000, about 2100@100km/hr thats about 60 MPH for all my US friends. This a great site

 

2200-2500rpm around town solo driving.

When I am towing the shift points are in the 3500 rpm range

 

Thanks. About what I expected. Am I the only one who hears a certain "note" at around 2,000 RPM?

 

1800 - 2000

But I also jump gears if I am putting around. 1 to 3 to 6 for example. Anyone else do this?

I shift a little more aggressivly, usually shift 2500 to 3500.
Maybe because I mainly ride sport bikes for transportation and I tend to rev them a lot higher.
These engins like to rev, so..............let em.

Nope, I am glad to hear the "note" myself. My first vehicle was an old '73 jeep, no radio, no tach, soft top, so it was pretty loud in there, so the engine note was pretty important when the transmission was not synched.

 

I shift somewhere around 2000 like everyone else I guess. I don't really pay much attention to the tach when driving.Just go by feel and "knowing" when to shift. I glance at it occasionally mainly because it's there, but don't pay much attention. My car doesn't have a tach so I guess it's more of a novelty than anything to me.

From 1st to 2nd I shift at around 3000, then the rest of the gears I shift at around 2000.

 

I hear ya dave. all my buddies thought i was crazy. i was gettin worried. i fig if i dont need that gear why use it. lol 1-3-6 is my shift pattern. keep the rpms low!! lol save that gold in the tank.

 

HAHHA Right on! I was wondering the same thing. I just wish I had a 7th gear!

 

Usually somewhere in the 2100-2500 range--trying to keep the gas gauge from dancing too much. When more aggression needed (getting on the freeway, passing, etc.) up to 3500. Fuel economy suffers if I do this too much!
