Hey guys, I am brand new to the Forum (well I have been trolling for a while now) and I am just about to finish my purchase of my first Tacoma.

I wanted to ask what you guys would think the best first mods should be when I get ahold of it.

I have about $1000 to spend in goodies. (Not looking at new rims or tires yet, that will be later)

I am going for performance over looks. I was thinking of the basics like a quickshifter, intake, exhaust etc.

Not sure I really need any of those because the truck works damn well already.
I have been a jeep guy for a long time, it is weird to be able to trust the OEM stuff so much. I always assumed i needed to replace everything on a Jeep.

Stay away from open box Intakes. Look into the old style TRD or AFe stage 2si. I've heard good things about the quick shifters. And dynamax wicked flow and aero turbine are the best exhaust systems. Also Doug thorley long tubes really open up your top end power.

I have an open box K&N on my current Jeep. Although it gets plenty of airflow it sure as hell gets all of the damn water and mud too.

You talking about headers with that last item?

    Nevermind. Google ftw.

I live near Tempe Market place. I think there is a possibility that some of you guys live in my complex. There are some seriously kitted out Tacos in my Condo complex.

I work as an office manager for AZ Combat Sports in the evenings. (so you may see plenty of activity from me at nights on here)

I assume for us, unlike Cali residents, installing the headers/exhaust parts doesn't screw us over in the emissions sector right?

Nope there's a simple simulator that turns the check engine light off. I almost joined that place last year

Well I am finishing the purchase by this Sat (cross fingers) depending on how much I can abuse the sales guy over trade in price.

I think I am going to go for the full airflow replacement (intake, headers, exhaust).

Not sure if I can swing all three at the same time, more likely only headers OR exhaust along with the intake.

    What should I buy/install first?

    Decisions decisions.

Hmm Jake can comment on the TRD exhaust. How loud do you want it?

I had an XJ a few years back when I lived on the islands. Loved that damn car. Cheap and easy to work on. Absolutely terrible mileage for a DD though.

    -------
As for how loud on the exhaust.... no 'effin clue. I would think throaty is cool, but I don't want anything that is going to be damn irritating at cruising speeds. My roomate just got an STI and his damn exhaust is kinda oppressive at some speeds and idle.

However, like I said, I lean towards performance. I know that some of the pipes out there are tuned for looks and/or sound, I want HP/lbft. :D

Hahahaha nah. While I like the idea of a blower, I am not sure I want my Mpg to go that way again. Part of the reason I am switching from my Jeep is because I am tired of the 11.7mpg average I get with it.

Even driving like a douche with the 4.0L, I should still do better than that average.

Unless you're telling me that you get 16+ in the city with your blower!!!! ;)

I'm not sure what the guys with blowers get. i get like 13 but i have armor and heavy tires. i bet they get good gas mileage as long as you aren't always in boost
