Just do it. I have never owned a 911, but have had a couple other Porsches- 924 Turbo, 944, 944S, and they were great cars. Of course parts, and maintanence items are going to be expensive, but they are very robust, and well built cars. I say do it.

    i just vomited alittle.

i have one. one of the best years..an SC (they were 78-83)..come with a 3 liter motor. you go 84-87, you get the 3.2 liter with the same tranny i have. new, you get the G50 tranny that shifts better, hydraulic clutch, etc.

i love my 3liter with my finicky 915 tranny. i can run down the highway in third gear at red line forever. i drive it nice, i have gotten 33 mpg. i drive it to the track, change tires, track it, change tires..and drive it home. i've done this to Socal. no other car could survive that. none.

That pic of yours is nice!! Got more detailed pics?

I sold my Cayman S about 6 months ago. You can't really go wrong with any model of 911. Just be careful not to end up with one that has been beaten. If you can find one that is owned by 50+ year old guy it is probably going to be better taken care of.:D I am hoping to put a new 911 in the garage in about a year.

I used to have one. I converted my 1979 911 sc to the 1998 993 Turbo body style. Check out the pics www.993.8k.com

beware of the pop-ups since it was a free web hosting site. Sold it before moving to the east coast.

    I'd love to get a 2.7-3.2 engined car and drop a 3.6 and a G-50 on it!

Seems that you need to start hanging out in Rennlist...

BTW, I owned a 944S followed by a 968. They are fun, but when they decide to get pricey (maintenance wise), it's no joke!!!

doesnt sound too daunting but it depends on how far the track is. this is a buddies set up, he went cross country to do some tracks. he lives in LA and went over the rockies or something. cant remember where he was going. i've driven to socal to do street of willow. my friends 928 and another WRX had to go to the shop in socal before the drive home. i just loaded it up and drove home following my other buddies 911. no AC sucked tho..and we had earplugs in. also sucky.

Ack! Stuffing a 4G63 in the back of a 911 is blasphemy! :)
Don't get me wrong, I love the 4G63. I've personally tuned and built them to record setting levels. But I've also build a few 911's and they make big power everywhere, easily. Here's a pic of my work bay right now. I'm building a custom intercooler kit for this car. you can hate me a little lol

Here's another pic of the progress,
just cuz you guys are so easy to tease! :p haha

    65b57148_27c13ae9afd8311ec94993df5bd6d3ead048e30d.jpg

What's weird is that I'm most proud that I was able to fit the intercooler around the stock A/C compressor, and there's room to reach the oil filter, dipstick, oil filler and PS fluid filler cap. Nevermind that it has twin GT35's on it, as long as I can change the oil easily! :D
