I'm also there- any time- any trail (that my stock height taco can rally!!)

I'm ALWAYS down for a trail run. Thinking of camping sat-sun down in Little Sahara next weekend- May 12-13 (if anyone else is interested too) to make sure I have all my gear set for Moab the next weekend

Just met a dude with a sweet 2nd gen- that I'm trying to convince to come out to Moab- but we're for sure goin to Little Sahara- he's bringing a dirtbike :jellydance:

    Hi SLC tacos!

I'm in town from Phoenix for the next couple of days and I'm curious where there are some good eating establishments and watering holes in the downtown area. I'm staying right next door to the convention center on Temple. Looks like there's alot of church facilities which I assume will limit my alcohol consumption options within walking distance.

    Any suggestions would be great!

There is a good amount of good restaurants in the Salt Lake area. Look up "Squatters", they have good food and good beers.;)

Hit up Ahh Sushi/ Oh Shucks, it's a sushi place and bar in one- half off before 2p I believe. Also Bayleaf Cafe has the BOMB fried chicken- highly recommend the Big Bubba- they also have cheap drinks. Just north of where you're staying is The Garage, which is my favorite local establishment- live music all the time and great food. If you're looking for cheap cheap drinks- hit up The Jackalope on 372 South State St. If you're feelin a garlic burger- hit Guzzi's , and finally if you're feelin a philly cheese steak- head to Downtown Philly.

Great ideas, everyone. Thanks, and keep em coming. My plane lands at 6 so I'll be just in time for dinner. It's on the company dime so $$ is no object.

Not sure if you have many street vendors in AZ, but if you've never had, the street tacos near Sears (754 South State Street) are worth a quick meal.

Also, Trolly Wing Company inside of Trolly Square Mall has great wings, although they are slow to serve. Can never go wrong with traditional mediums, imo.

Trolly Square also has Desert Edge Brewery and some pretty great food. Their daily specials seem a little odd sounding at first, but I've never been disappointed.

As far as drinking goes, if you're just interested in beer, we have all sorts of micro breweries all over the place, as you can probably tell with 3 already having been mentioned. You pretty much cant go wrong at them, as not only do they have good beers, but also most seem to have above average food as well.

My places might be a bit far for walking distance though.

Just a hello - don't mean to hi-jack the thread or any conversations. Just bought a 2002 stepside, would like to find a good mechanic who charges noemal prices. Tired of going to Toyota. And should I post my rims and tires on KSL, or is there a good place on this forum for the utah sales? Thanks

I don't see no thread jack here. Welcome again to TW!

No advice for mechanics but yea go ahead and post your items on KSL. But you can also post em up on TW as well. Look at the Buy/Sell/Trade section but just remember to state if you'd rather prefer a LOCAL SALE. Some members are down to pay for shipping if the price is right as well.

    Good luck

The first night I was tired from working/traveling so I just hit up the hotel lobby sports bar at the Radisson. The second night I ended up at Squatters (Broadway and 200S) with a couple of coworkers for some food, then right behind it to Gracie's to meet up with about 30 others. Gracies ended up being a blast and the place was packed. We closed it down.

Once again, thanks to everyone for the ideas!

I was wondering if anyone is located relatively near the Ogden area and has access to an angle grinder (I have no access and no work area at my apartment complex). Would you mind helping me grind these welds off the pipes and mufflers? Pretty please :D I have no experience with a grinder so I guess you'd be pretty much doing it unless you teach me, haha.

If you were closer, sure thing. You're a good 60 miles away though. It'd cost you more in gas than to just go buy a cheap grinder from Harbor Freight. I'm sure it will be fine for the amount you'll use it.

Then you'll just need eye protection, long gloves, and disks for what you plan to do. Just a simple grinding disk for cleanup or a cutting disk for cutting (although I'd probably use a reciprocating saw for cutting)

Maybe not the best way but another cheap way would be a simple hacksaw. Everybody should own one and you can get one for less than $10 at Lowes or Home Depot.

Thanks for the tips guys :) appreciate it. Really debating whether or not to buy either one of the two just for this job. I'll maybe try calling a couple local metal work shops to see if they could possibly do it for free or really cheap.

EDIT: For the hacksaw, I kinda don't wanna take to much away from the muffler in/oulets cuz the welds are pretty nasty and close to the muffler body. :notsure:

Does anybody know if AF is open yet? If it is, then I'd like to arrange a ride up there one of the next couple of weekends. I'm hoping to do the Tibble Fork Jeep Trail with a few others. It's fairly easy going. Stock vehicles will handle it fine. There are some steep drop-offs over the side.

We can plan on a picnic lunch or something if anybody is interested, especially those who want to bring kids and snap some photos of our adventure. I'm a stock 2012 DCSB TX Pro. So I'm not planning on getting too crazy. As mentioned before, there are some interesting trails off to the side to get crazy.

If that doesn't work... (canyon closed maybe) then let's head west and go hit at least part of Pony Express and/or Five Mile out near Lehi.

I figure it's good to start off slow, and at least get together and chat, get to know each other, figure out who feels comfortable leading, who is worried about what lines to take, etc. We get that all figured out and we can start planning some more interesting stuff depending on who is willing to do what.

I'm also happy to take a couple of passengers if anybody isn't comfortable taking a rough road yet, but still want to take the run and see what's up. I know my first few off-road experiences there were always a few guys that would ride with somebody else to get comfortable with the terrain and how to do certain things by watching. It should just be me and my 8 year old son.

So maybe the 19th, 26th (Memorial Day weekend might be too crazy) or June 1st. Speak now if you're interested and where you'd prefer to go. If somebody wants to call and figure out how high we can go in AF Canyon then we can make a solid decision on which one to head to. Perhaps the stuff out West is clearer. I know the Wasatch Cruisers have been mentioned. Last year they went up around the Copper Mine and did some interesting exploring.

Don't worry.... we'll make sure this first one is mellow and not one that will remove all paint from your doors. :) If we get SUPER organized, we can each bring something to eat. Or if there aren't too many people I'm happy to bring pop, chips, hot dogs, buns, and stuff to put on them. We'd just need somebody to bring some wood and such as there is a good place I mentioned earlier at the top of Tibble Trail to stop and have a lunch. There are also lots of areas out at Five Mile. Plus we could scout out a clean-up project. I am sure we could get some media coverage from that one (not to make us look good so much... but to remind people to pick up their crap!). My cousin writes for the Trib and always wants to do stories on stuff like that and asks me what's going on if the offroad world. Any press for us that states the good we do is positive and helps keep trails open hopefully.

Somebody told me this week that last time they went to Five Mile they found used liquor bottles smashed everywhere, empty beer cans, human waste all over the place, and to top it all off... a fire still burning, and a FULL SIZE SOFA that was left behind at their "temporary camp site". Unbelievable. I'd be happy to haul out a truckload of crap and drop it at the Lindon transfer station wherever we go and send the pictures and story basics to my cuz.

Keep me updated for anybody who is interested. PM, post here, email me, whatever. Let's get something set in stone! Yeeehaw-hooey!!!! It's Spring time bros and sis's. :)

Check out my post above... if you decide to come down for one of the rides in Utah County or meet up with us in Salt Lake County, then bring it along. I'm sure we can get it taken care of in short order if you want to head down this way. I'm in Orem, but I agree that getting a grinder from Harbor Freight may be worth it in the long run (cheaper than renting, and cheaper than having somebody do one job that requires grinding). Then you can use it in the future as well for other stuff. I don't mind cutting welds or shaping metal for you... you'd just need to mark off with a sharpie what you want done and I'll do it gladly. Too bad you're not in or near Orem. I could do it today for you no problem for the price of free! :)
