Sqeaky belt or something else?

Since the arrival of winter, I notice a squeaking noise coming from under the hood when I first start my truck until it warms up. It sounds like a squeak or whistle, I suppose what a slipping belt would sound like. The noise is faint, and I can really only hear it when I throw in the clutch and let off the gas as the RPM's fall from 2200-1500 RPM's. Like I said, the noise goes away once the engine is warm.

I just inspected my belts, and they look okay, but I'm not sure how tight they should be. I can twist over each of the 3 belts 180 degrees. Is that normal? Would a squeaking sound from a loose belt go away when the engine warms up?

Has anyone else had this problem? Does it sound like a loose belt or something else? Sorry I spelled squeaky wrong in the post subject!

 

It's a good place to start, seeing that your truck is an 04, replace the belts, should not have a lot of play, find the middle of the longest stretch between pulleys, pull with fingers, no more than an inch.

 

sounds like a belt to me but i have herd of pully bearing going bad

 

Yeah, I had a tensioner go south on me on a V-8 with about 200,000 miles on it, but it was making a hell of a racket that never went away until replaced.

Did you ever get this fixed? I have/had the same type noise as you describe. I changed my belt at the end of last winter and it went away. Now that the cold weather is back so is the squeak. I am guess an idler pully..? How hard are these to change out?

How did you know which one to replace or did you replace all 3? Also couldnt it be the tensioner making the noise? I just sprayed mine with silicone lubricant and the noise stopped.
