Same site says the gas equivalent gets 13.0 L/km, or 18 mpg.

25 mpg is not twice as good as 18, but it is significantly better. The EPA says a U.S. double cab 4x2 6cyl auto gets 19mpg combined city/highway, while a DC 4x2 4cyl auto gets 21 mpg. That's only a 10% improvement. If you could get a 25.29 mpg diesel, that would be a 33% improvement.

I think 33% better fuel economy, with 53% more torque (277 lb*ft diesel vs. 180 lb*ft 4cyl) is something a significant number of people would be interested in.

You've got it backwards. That's fuel consumption per 100 kilometers. NOT kilometers per liter. More liters per 100km, means worse fuel efficiency.

The guy above was stating that the Diesel Hilux gets 38 to miles per gallon, which isn't the case.

Also, look at the cargo capacity. 2500kg towing a braked trailer, that's only 5,500 lbs. A significant reduction in towing capacity, which is the same rating for the gas version of the Hilux.

Mind, I'm not saying that I wouldn't buy a Diesel Hilux in a heart beat if they were available in North America, because I would. But it doesn't get 100% better fuel economy.

 

He converted it to mpg's to compare them and his calculations were correct.

I think its been confirmed at this point that the remodel is 2014. Will be released in the fall of 2013. Follows similar rollout of 4runner. 2008 the 4runner got a facelift (like the 2012 tacoma did) and then in 2010 got a major redesign.

Toyota manager told me its going to be very different and blow us away. I'm very interested to see the motor that will be in the 2014.

That is one sexy ride, just look at the wide stance and muscular looking chassis, amazingly tight lines with just the right color. I bet that bumper could really take a pounding. Oh and the truck is nice too.

 

I still haven't found a truck in this pic. However I do see something I'd "drive" though.
