Hey guys I have been pondering buying a new 2012 Tacoma. I have a 2008 dclb trd and it's an awesome truck 200,000 km(126,000 miles) I like the look and new options available in the newer tacomas. They are quite expensive brand new for the most loaded one but worth it believe my truck is paid for so it's a straight trade no issues

So has anyone upgrades to a 2012? Was it worth it?

I traded my 06 TRD-OR DC for one a few weeks ago and love it.I really didnt wanna buy a brand new one but Im glad i did. If your planning on doing up the suspension and other upgrades, I would buy the base model. The TRD packages aren't even worth what you pay for (bilstein shocks and TRD decals).

You're right Idaho, and the bed mounted outlet as well, but for the same price you could put your own parts on for way cheaper including the locker.

Yeah, i like the SR5 package as well. It boosts your equipment enough to make the vehicle look good and feel more comfortable. You can put whatever toyota parts on it you want aside from whats in the TRD packages. For example, you couldn't tell the dealership that you wanted just the bilstein shocks and not the rest of the package. Unfortunately it's all sold together.

I don't know about the 2012's but 2005- 2011 you could get a loaded SR5 but there are still items that you can't get outside of the TRD package. The TRD packages have different seats, the bedside outlets and the overhead temp display thingy. Check Toyota.com for what's available in your area for packages.

If you wanted to pay the dealership to install new Bilstein shocks, why wouldn't they do it for you? If you put Bilstein shocks on a non-TRD, the suspension will be identical to a TRD model btw. The 2012 TRD Sport is the exception with a stiffer leaf pack than the OR or the SR5. Most of the items of the TRD package can be added by a dealership with the exception of the ECU stuff (ATRAC). It'd be extremely expensive though and you'd be better off sourcing the parts used and doing it yourself.

Im not saying anything about the performance of the suspension, Im saying that most dealerships don't like to part out their packages (in my past experiences anyway). But if you can find one that will then more power to ya!

I agree. You'd end up buying the base model, then purchasing the parts as if you were going through the Service Dept. Wouldn't be cheap but the parts are physically able to be swapped over to a base model.

No money, all went to truck...
If you can wait till fall 2013 for the next gen tacoma, I would. THat was my plan untill my 97 4runner started leaking oil and needed both front axles replaced.

Just went from a 2011 DC 4x4 short bed to a 2012 DC 4x4 long bed and love the ride and nice additions not on the 2011 like bluetooth for the phone, new steering wheel and blinkers on side mirrors...But probably not enough if your truck is already paid for...

So what's the value in side mirror blinkers?

I came close to trading my 2010 for one. I want the towing pkg but it would cost me 7k to trade.

I was thinking the same thing. The salesman said he went to some kind of meeting/event where they disclosed that the 2013 would have no changes. I would take that with a grain of salt, seeing how he probably would have said anything to sell me a truck....

Traded a 2011 TRD Sport Access Cab for a 2012 SR5 DC. Lost the overhead temp and compass, now they're on the mirror along with Homelink for the garage door...much nicer. Base radio is a lot better, seats feel about the same, ride is as good or better.
