just did this.. I just cut the green/red wire and taped up each end with black electrical tape. maybe later down the road I can run a switch, but what's the purpose of it if the DTRL is going to melt the lens anyways -_- my fog lights can act as the DTRL

    thanks OP

This is where i put my switch, Wanted it out of sight and out of the way. Figured this would be the best spot that would also be easily accessible. Works great and a great mod! Thanks for the write up!!:bananadance:

This was a great simple mod that I ended up doing because my DTRLs ended up cracking the factory lens. It was a bit of a pain to get to the striped green wire though, but worth it IMO not to deal with having to go through the dealership again.

Finished mine today, took about 2 hours including the modified switch.

Just after connecting all the wires. I recommend pulling the lower dash, it's not hard and you don't get all cramped up.

To get illumination, I just tapped into a mini fuse under the dash. However, I will probably unhook it, because it will not turn off and just becomes annoying.

If i already did the fog light anytime on mod, i want to know if anyone can figure out if i can just wire the dtrl light to that, so when i turn my fogs on the dtrl come one and turn off with them too, thus only one switch, rather than having to turn three switches to get all my lights on when i want them to. just seems if it can be done it would be pretty convenient. thanks, great write by the way, may just disconnect it till i can figure out how to get my desired result.

I don't see any problem doing that. You would just need to clip the green striped wire and extend it and connect it to the back of the factory fog light switch. I just opted for a simple radio shack single pole switch.

So... this is my first mod ever on any vehicle and I thought I might get it done a bit faster, but it started getting cold outside so I'll finish it up tomorrow. My thoughts so far:

~Probably 100% obvious to anyone who has ever done any sort of work before, but engaging the parking brake gets the pedal out of the way and there's a bit more space to work. (Like, seriously, I've really never done any work on a vehicle, so bear with me).

~I tried removing all three clip harnesses but I can only get one of them unhooked, the other two are giving me hell so I guess I'll just try to wire it while it's still behind the dash. It's not too bad, sometimes having little girly hands is helpful. But the wires are all electrical taped into a bundle, so I have to get the tape off them before I can cut the wire, and that's a bit of a pain.

    ~OWWWW my neck.

Hope I can get it done tomorrow. I can see what needs to be done, doesn't look terribly difficult. Knock on wood. I have my switch (a black rocker switch from Ace Hardware) set into the back of the coin tray you pull out to get to the fuse panel. The switch would look really nice out on the dash because it fits in well with the other switches and buttons, but I figured since this is my first mod, and the coin tray is cheaper and easier to replace than the dash if I screw it up, I'd just put in on the tray :)

I just did it today on my '12 and it was exactly the same set up. It only took me a few minutes though because I didn't need the switch, I just cut the wire and put some tape on it.
