Pretty wild to watch-

Better to see parts flying off and whole cars flipping then to see the something like the Earnhardt crash. And +1 for the tech teams and car designers!!

Very impressive engineering gone into that car.

But before we get too dramatic and say he hit it at 188mph etc - he didn't. He may have been doing 188mph, but he hit it at an angle. If he had hit it at 188mph the family would be organising his funeral service right now.

 

Damn Dale Earnhardt didn't crash anywhere near that hard.

 

That was the craziest crash I have ever seen! Amazing he was able to walk away.

Dale Hit the wall head on and stopped. With the angle and the flipping the car was able to absorb most of the impact in this crash. I remember watching that last year.

I cant find the wreck he had in qualifing a few years ago. After the wreck he was sitting in the roll cage in the middle of the track with none of the truck left attached to the cage.

It was sad when we lost Dale but a lot of good has come from it for the safety of the other drivers.

i bet michael mcdowell and the rest of the drivers are glad that nascar decided to install soft walls at the tracks!!

 

The speed at impact was 187mph, I agree. The collision speed was no way near that. If you're doing 70mph on the freeway and someone tries to move into your lane that you're already in, you may lose some paint and maybe a rear-view mirror. That does not constitute a 70mph collision. A collision AT 70, yes. A collision OF 70 - no.

Again, that is a massive wreck and I'm not taking anything away from the fact that he walked away.

 

Here it is. Alex Zanardi still races today in a modified BMW touring car in Europe. The crash occured in Germany one week after 9-11.
